Just wondered how difficult it is to swap a turbo with the engine in the car. I have always dealt with 10V URqs in the past where it is almost impossible without taking the head off. I am about to put an ABY engine in it so am hoping the job will be less difficult with the improved turbo location. My dilema is that I may want to upgrade the turbo, I'm sure it will be easier while the engine is out, but I don;t have the cash yet and I don't want to take half the engine to bits in 6 months time.
Adam, its not too bad, you will need some S Spanners to get the lower bolt off of the turbo to downpipe but other than that you should be fine.
The EM is easier to change with head off though since the studs arent that accessible and can snap off too.
Ditto .
I chopped and bent some old spanners to fit the purpose and although I ended up with some bruised knuckles it wasn't as bad as expected to emove the turbo, so long as you do not have fat sausage fingers that is...
Manifold removal is a different matter.

Thanks for the info guys, think I'll can start putting the engine in now then. Luckily i've already swapped for an RS2 manifold, it was difficult enough with the engine out and 2 feet off the ground, I daresay it would be nigh on impossible with it in.
