    Noisey Turbo

Just recently I have noticed that my turbo (91 3b s2) realy whines above 4000rpm. This doesnt happen all the time but is happening more frequently.

I have noticed that my dump valve hose is split ( new one due soon ) could this be the cause of my noise. When i get the new hose I intend to check the connections on all turbo pipes.

    Any ideas

    Cheers people

    Jon

Sounds like turbo failure may be on its way. Check for movement on its shaft, back and forth, otherwise check intake system for leaks using a pressure tester.

Eek that sounds expensive.what sort of costs are involved in replacing the turbo?(if it is on its way out)

I replaced mine last year and it cost around £400 all in . That was a full rebuild of the turbo to 'as new' by AET in Wakefiled, all new gaskets, nuts and bolts etc. Changed it myself with the aid of a friend. Never done it before took about 2.5 hours to get off and 3 to get it fully back together if I remember.

If it is on its way. Decide what you want to do with the car at a later date. Ask yourself if you want to keep it fairly std, or do you want to increase power vastly?? If you are happy enough with stock performance then as Leigh said above, AET are a very good company, have used them loads of times.

If you want extra grunt from the car then consider changing the turbo for a larger unit, along with a different exhaust manifold.
