What sort of turbo is it?

An S2 I have been looking at is supposed to have an RS2 turbo, is there anyway of telling by these numbers which are on the intake side of the turbo what sort of turbo it is:
    GGG3552
    53261017388 P

I found a post about an "SMS" turbo here: http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...i+S2+SMS+Turbo

The first number matches exactly and the first half of the second number also matches.

Does this mean that it is an SMS turbo or do I have the inconclusive part numbers?

    Thanks in advance

on the back side of the cold-side it should say kkk k24 72000 if it is an rs2

One thing i've learned we are way behind the Scandinavians!

I have a AET reconditioned RS2 turbo with replacement cold-side that has a place for a badge, unlike the image above.

It also doesnt have an RS2 ID badge.

Be interested to see that! Just wondering if they use a K26 or K27 comp housing.
I am pretty sure that the RS2 comp housing is unique and not shared with any other turbo. I would also have thought that the backplate/comp wheel are matched.
So does your backplate have the space for the tag to be attached?

I was told it was the wheels that were unique to the RS2's

While we are at the guessing game... anyone want to take a stab at this one? I was told (it was a freebie that came with a 93 URS4 that is donating it's engine for my "S2" project) that it is a "rs2 hybrid" sounded like ******** to me but hey it was free, he said that the previous owner gave it to him when he bought the car and said it was a k26 hotside with a k24 cold. To me it looks like a standard k26 that has been rebuilt.

Well it looks like the comp wheel/comp housing are unique to the RS2. The backplate is fitted to other models including Porsche.
Obviously it is possible to machine a compressor housing assuming it has enough material to start with. So I guess if an original RS2 comp housing is relatively expensive to replace, an alternative is used.

Plus the following, from the man at AET:
"You can make something very close to the RS2 turbo from other turbos, but you can't get an exact copy unless you have the unique parts."

                      At last !

If my eyes show me right - it is the first K26/K24 hybrid (it is K26 cold, and k24 hot) I ever seen. It was discussed in hundreds of threads in various forums. So here it is in the flesh! It is very interesting to know how it is performing. Probably somewhere between stock k24 and rs2.

I would ask for where but if they are forums not in English/Italian, I'll be completely lost.

As far as I can see the following parts are unique to the RS2:
                            Compressor housing.
                            Compressor wheel.
                            Turbine wheel and shaft.
                            Turbine housing.

So my "RS2 turbo" is not actually going produce the same performance as an un-conditioned RS2 turbo?
