    Radiator rubber mount

    Hey fella's,

Had a fun night trying to sort out my radiator today! I decided to take the plunge and just replace the 14 year old rad with a brand new one, probably the best thing to do...

The good news: GSF had a Behr one in stock, £132 inc vat

Bad news: after swapping everything over, I couldn't get the rubber mount on the bottom of the radiator off...

I've destroyed the old radiator, used copious amounts of WD40, lost lots of skin and can't get the thing off. I've broken my hacksaw so didn't get to chance go that far but I'm thinking it is probably just worth buying a new mount - certainly wish I'd done that first!

Can anyone help out with the part no' and cost of this mount? Can I get that from GSf as well?

    Cheers!

      Cheers Bo!

£7 plus vat from Audi, got one ordered for tomorrow, means I can just cut the old one off with a hacksaw to free the plastic cowling and get it done Sat morning

From memory you need two of these... One at the bottom and theres a really awkward one near the hydraulic reservoir. Maybe I'm thinkin of another car here - check the remnants of the old rad...

Swap the cowling onto new rad before fitment as the bolts are a PITA otherwise with restricted access to say the least.

Yeah that's right but that one is titchy in comparison.

I had the same issue as Ross but a bit of E85 and brute force got it off.

Oh you might be right - its maybe a bigger rubber at the bottom... The rubbers I have are the smaller ones then - also used on auxrad and bomb brackets.

I am sure you can source a like for like equivalent at RS components. If you give me the size of rubber and the thread length and size (M5?) I can look up the part numbers for future refernce if you want...

Keep going Ross, nearly there now!

Looks like theres three rubbers at play here ---

Bottom of main rad = 803 121 273 (biggest one)
Front of main rad with the bracket and bottom of aux rad = 443 121 273 E (medium size)
Wing side of main rad = 893 121 273 (smallest one)

The Aux rad rubbers are expensive for what they are, I ordered some then when I found out the price ditched the Aux rad ala S2avants advice

Get rid of all the plastic in the engine bay. Anyone who's seen my engine bay has been amazed at the amount of space that I've got. Rad out in 5 mins, thermostat change in 10. Simple

Don't want to hijack the thread but yes, the plastic has to go with the wagner IM anyhow as unless you cut it up it don't fit.

                            Cheers guys!

I was so hacked off when that radiator sprung a leak... hopefully karma will mean that the strut-body rubber brake lines will come off easily to compensate... (yeah right).

Thanks for the offer Paul, have already ordered it from Audi to arrive tomorrow so keep the spare until I find out they have sent me the wrong one and then I'll ask the favour

Moving across the fan, A/C condenser took minutes and using the double nut trick on the side mount with a bit of WD40 sorted that one too. And don't get me started on the temp sender - the adjustables were about 1mm too small but 15 minutes of vigorous sanding action changed that

Hoping to pop the rad in on saturday, yet another job that I am now comfortable doing @ home, so there's some positives to this

Well the part no's are the wrong way round on ETKA... can't remember which number I gave the guy now but on the phone he confirmed the location on ETKA and it's possible he ordered the "correct" one for me ot be helpful

Anyway, asked them to get the other in to have a look and as for this morning's rad fitting session it's cancelled
