petrol pump blues

Hello all, petrol pump packed up yesterday, and i have had the cap off the tank, and have dislodged the fuel pump, along with the housing around it, but have not been able to remove it from the outer part of the housing. It may be me being dull, but dos anyone have a method or getting this out quick enough to avoid getting stoned off the petrol fumes............cheers, bern

The white plastic bracket thing holds the pump quite snug but it does slide out.

I wouldn't attempt in the car with that hole in the tank open...

1 - disconnect the battery

2 - remove the wiring from the fuel pump

3 - remove the fuel line banjo

4 - now proceed to remove the pump with its plastic housing

5 - proceed to a bench where you can safely separate the pump from plastic housing

What year and type of car is it? Did my 95 ABY S2 Avant recently so very familiar with this car's procedure.
