    ECU diagnostic reader

    Hi
don't know the correct name for above item - the piece of kit that reads the ECU.
I have just taken my S2 to see if there was a fault stored in the ECU and to look for leaking hoses - I'm getting the cut out at 4K. Found a hole in 1 hose and replaced it - still cutting out.
However, no signal could be received from my ECU - it wouldn't connect. Is there a different reader for the S2 - the make he had was a 'Sykes Pickavant'. The book didn't cover all Audis - we had trouble trying to identify the engine - the ABY was listed as 1992-1996, no 3B engine was listed, and the ABY was also recorded against the 2.2i A6. Does all of this sound correct.
If it isn't the kit that was incorrect, is there anything that could stop my ECU being read?
    Cheers
    Paul

Fuse for Diagnostic might have blown - blew mine, and couldn't read fault codes. Look in the inside of the cover and see which one it is - ECU diagnostics or something. Might be something as simple as that! Check on Paul N's S2Central.Net for details on the diode from Maplins and a piece of wire, to use for reading the fault codes. Easy to sort out, cheap, and does the trick. If you've fixed a leak, but still cutting out, pull the Orange covered fuses for 30 seconds then try the car - you never know - you might have cured the fault, but it's still in the ECU - clearing the codes with the pulled fuses might sort out your prob (It's never that easy, but worth a shot?)

    Good luck, PJ

Heh - nah, you keep your job m8 - 'www.Pnesscentral.net' sounds like a pay per view site with unsavoury images springing to mind...

Diagnostics - Fuse 21, Top right hand corner on the ABY, it's a 10 amp

It's true, I've learnt a lot since posting on an MSN board a few years ago titled 'Twitchy car with wood for brakes' and my forum name was '23.9mpg Arrrgggh'

I think the best lesson I've learnt in that time is to stand at arms length when my credit cards explode... Cheers for all you've done to bring enlightenment to the unwashed masses... (though some of us still stink )

This board has a LOT to answer for! and I'm sure there are a few who will agree with that.

Shows the real value of the board tho' huh, as Paul says.

            Thanks chaps
have checked the fuse - it appears OK. I have removed the orange covered fuses and will let you know when I take it out later this evening. Whilst I was checking I have no fuse in no.20 and nothing in the bigger spaces that seem to be for 'Relay for fog light'; 'Radiator Fan Relay'; 'Control Unit Shift Lock' ; and 'Relay for air-conditioning' (understandable as I don't have air-con). Picture attached I hope. Does this all seem correct?
