    ABY intermittant cut out/stall....

Have had this problem for a couple of weeks now and wondered if anyone on here had any ideas?

Started when pulling out of a petrol station a couple of weeks ago, got up 70 on the dual carriageway and engine cut out suddenly....off boost, just cruising at low revs in
6th gear. Pulled on to hard shoulder and got the fault code 2212 - G69 faulty.
after half an hour of turning over and starting for about a 2 seconds and stalling, it suddenly sprung into life and I drove home. Kinda felt like a fuel problem (no, I didnt fill it up with diesel!) You could start it and have your foot to the floor and it would fire and rev...however, without lifting off the throttle, revs would drop and it would stall.

Anyway...because of the code I fitted another TPS and as it felt fuel related, a relay and new fuel pump....Took it up the road and exactly the same thing....!

    Anyone got any ideas?

I really would appreciate some help and love to go a few weeks without ANY problems with the old girl

    Cheers

    James

Where is the hall sender Andy...?
Checked all earth wires and connection and they all seem fine...would a faulty crankshaft sensor cause it to cut out?

      Cheers

Were you getting full boost before the cut outs were starting to happen?

            Yep...It doesn't seem boost related.
Last time i drove it I was pootling out of the driveway after starting it up from warm and it cut out...Took it up the road with the wgfv disconnected and does the same thing...cuts out.
When you try and start it again it fires and runs for a secong before dying, no matter what you do....

              How does it die?
For example if you hold the revs at 3k and then step off the throttle does it drop straight down and die or does it drop slowly and then die after it fails to idle?

Or does the engine die before the revs drop?

It dies even with your foot to the floor...usually when it fires up it will rev for a second depending on throttle position and then without changing that position it dies straight away...revs drop to nothing and it wont even try to idle.

                  James,

I can't offer any direct help to you other than to say I really feel for you as it's been off the road for a long time. They are a great car when they work, but can do you head in when it is this type of "invisible" fault.

Hopefully someone on here can diagnose it correctly for you?

The only thing I could suggest with my limited knowledge is have you checked / ruled out the sensor at the end of the camshaft at the front of the engine.

Keep the faith it has to come right if you methodically go through one step at a time, making a written note as you go.

Probably not realistic, but buy a second one as a back up so that when one of the two breaks you can drive the other and not have to be S2 ' less. I am assuming your is a daily driver?

Hope the above helps a little bit.

                  Kind regards.

                    Hi David...Thanks for the inspiration...

Fortuanately I have an Isuzu Trooper I use as my daily driver and the S2 is for weekends and "fun", although since I bought it I have only had about a handful of "fun" days!

Will keep going with it for the time being, but it really is becoming a bottomless pit and cant really afford the time or funds to keep going unless it is fixed soon.

Hey ho...You are right, they really are something else when they are on song, but they break your heart when they are not.

                    Cheers

                    James

Yep...changed the relay, pump and filter...TPS, POS, ISV, Coil packs, MAF, WGFV, Plugs and DV are all within 2000 miles....

After a bit of a search/reading old threads I am starting to think it could well be the camshaft hall sender.
I can start the car up from cold and it will run fine....after about 20 mins of sitting in the driveway getting warm it starts to mis slightly...then fan kicks in and revs drop to stall. After that it really struggles to start, sometimes fires and starts for a couple of seconds, until about an hour later when it is cool, then starts no probs

                              Sound like Cam sensor?.....

                              Cheers
