    Engine Lock tool

    Evening all....

Am planning on doing the headgasket seems all the downpipe is off the car at the moment and i have an RS2 EM on its way to me, but 1 slight problem i thought of earlier...

I need one of these home made engine lock tools, if someone has one i could borrow? Have no problem collecting and crossing someones palm with silver for the pleasure.

    Thanks All

Make one Ant - if you have access to a welder and an angle grinder it is really easy - just take a few measurements and cut away - my one has done a couple of cars now with no bending of the locking tool. It is very crude but does the job

I would offer mine but it is really heavy(to send) and I hope to be using it in a couple of weeks.

What were the measurements for it?

Have to see if i can get hold of something suitable, failing that borrowing one, will depend if i can get someone to make it too.

            It’s your Fault Ant,

Graham lives in a good part of the country. Beer is reasonably priced, there is great scenery on the doorstep and people are friendly. There are plenty of companies around which make things and house prices are sensible. The only side effects are that the weather is not as warm as the south East and all the locals look like Andy Capp!

Seriously though the thread to the build details is on my previous post.

I made my own from a solid billet of tool steel. If I could fathom out how I would post the engineering drawing for others to use.

Not any more I'm afraid Thomas. By law, tools have to be available to any one who wants them (as does tech. info etc) but VAG have changed there internal rules and now forbid dealers from selling tools. All tool orders and tech. queries must be forwarded to VAG UK. They are dead serious about it as well. I got caught selling some timing tools to the trade and had the head of volkswagen tools and literature threatening to revoke our dealer contract

Having said that, rules are meant to be broken . So I still supply them on the quiet If you can't get one Ant drop me a PM and I'll sort it for you.

Ant. Maybe if you can wait till Billing someone may be able to lend you one.

I have thought of an easier way to make one. Buy the square box section and cut the 'notch' out with a hack saw. Further up the tube drill a hole through the box section. Put a strong steel tube/rod through the hole and use that ( bit like a box spanner)No need for welding equipment!
