    I5 Crankshaft Balancing, HELP!!!

Unfortunately I am not only stuck in the office unable to make international phone calls, but also stuck in the United States, where our machinists can only seem to balance crankshafts on American piss petrol burning v8's!

Can someone tell me the percentage of reciprocating mass that I am to use in calculating the bobweights for my I5 or even contact bassett down balancing, ask them and email me? Some say it's 50%, but on inline engines with even number of cylinders, forces cancel (requiring no bobweights) and vr6's it's like 20% due to the close angle of the vee, so I'm weary on the information I trust!

I am trapped and really need some help and this is the last step before I can assemble the bits and get my engine going!

    Please, please, please!

      Same problem in Venezuela!

Hi there: going thru same ordeal here, machinist don´t know exact figures. Use the search engine in this forum, type in "balancing", and you will get all the info needed as there are a few threads, including yours. Cheers and good luck!!!!!

I know companies that have balanced these cranks to a factor of zero with no bobweights.

Everyone i spoke so told me something different.

I spoke with the company that manufacturers the machines used for balancing. The verdict is you must use bobweights for the crankshaft set to 50% of the reciprocating mass

            agree with dean16v

no bobweights is a defo no!

50% is THE CORRECT WAY to balance.
