Timucin, A decent wastegate spring will be a must for the boost your running. It will reduce wastegate creep and bring on the boost harder and faster. Speak to Mihnea, he has some hefty ones that are up to the job.

Would there be any performance gain on changing the spring on a standard car? How easy are they to change?

On a scale from 1 to 10, if putting gas in you car is a 1, then changing the spring is 2.

The short answer is a reserved 'YES' - there is some gain to be had - in fact this is how *some* super chip tuning companies bodge the S2 into running higher boost, but the benefit is limited (and sometimes dangerous to engine internals) without appropriate remapping of the ECU to program new boost levels, timing and fuelling for maximum gains within safety/reliability margins.

The 3B and ABY engines (and ADU) actually have the same WG spring as standard, but the preload on the 3B spring is less aggessive than ABY or ADU.

In my opinion - with the standard K24 turbo on 3B or ABY - the standard spring is absolutely fine as long as it is adjusted properly to work with chips as designed to minimise creep, lag and spool times.

The big old bed springs should only be fitted to cars running an RS2 (or bigger) turbo and have appropriate/custom ECU mapping to suit.

I would only change the spring if running big boost. And Mihnea will best advise on which one to use
