    Super strong WG spring (superchips)

I just took the wastegate spring out of the 3B S2 i recently bought.

I was told it might have been superchipped but i could not belive how strong the spring so i pressure tested it.

The WG was fully open at 1.5 bar and cracking pressure was 1 bar

The turbo has been replaced now.

I dont know how much boost a standard turbo can run but i think it's a bit less than that.

Dont know i've not drove the car yet and it has no boost guage.

I'll find out while i'm searching for a weaker spring i think a standard spring will be a bit weak for my liking.

My recommendation is the 1.9bar spring as max for K24 - that runs to about 0.9bar mechanical boost which is getting on for the max anyway. Obviously WGFV control on top of that required for target boost levels. Don't need to tell you that though.

I haven't tried the 1.9bar spring from 034 yet - but it does smell right.

I know. It's a bit of a joke when a 'chip tuner' can't even write a boost chip, and has to resort to controlling boost by mechanical means.
Just borrow a few fuel and ignition maps from somewhere that will roughly do the job, or maybe just use the ones that are already written if you can't even be arsed with that. Chuck a stiff spring in there, and bingo, job's a good'un.

Thats what i was thinking 0.8-0.9 on the guage.

Might chop a few coils off this one.

I have a spare WG with a 1.9bar spring in it, aparrently you pull back a few turns on the alan key on top to limit any overboosting... saw it hit 2.3bar with my own eyes before I drove it home... when the engine let go after 2 hours of m'way driving it was my fault, warranty dishonoured

Only plus is that your ECU still works with a stock motor when it blows up!

I'll always play it safe and go with proper motronic tuning, that's not to say of course that other methods cannot be effective when tuned properly and not during the night before you want your car back, or using alternate engine management software of course!

Do you wnt to swap springs?

Im looking for a 1.9 bar spring instead of this 2.5 bar one.

and was it you're choice to put the spring in or was it just the one that was in there, i'm surprised that it didn't last longer, who mapped the car for the setup?

hope people don't mind me asking the above questions

Which will stiffen the spring - is that your intention?
