    Petrol smell

Last two mornings the faint smell of petrol on getting into the car. Clears quickly. No leaks seen. The fuel lines & breather have superficial corrosion. Cleaned & waxolyed(sic) at service last month.
    Any views ?

Have you checked the fuel lines behind the rubber mounts? That's where the corrosion tends to start, and can be hidden.

Yeah - be afraid... my lines look horrendous yet (no fuel smell) and passed MOT ~6 weeks ago. I was recce'ing the fuel pump job at the weekend also to sort it, the filter and all the lines in one big job.

Get a careful look under the car and look for those tell-tale weeping signs at the joins and brackets along the way.

hmm can agree with that, was under mine last night and mine look in pretty poor state. I also had a petrol smell once i had refitted the fuel rail and one of the bango bolts was 1/4 looser than it should, just letting a small weep of fuel but boy did it stink!

This is what I found when I removed my tank:
The plastic had aged and split away from the steel threaded insert that holds the banjo in place. I just did a bit of plastic welding with a hot air gun and then sealed over that with fibreglass resin.
You may have the same issue.....
