boost and other problems after fitting Wagner RS2 Evo IC

    and the story begins....

Bought an Evo IC from Bo a while ago, problems with the delivery (parcel force heavy handedness) damage the bracket on the IC (IC to Crossmember bracket) so sat around waiting for parcel force to sort it out, eventually sorted

Really excited after sitting and looking at the IC sat in the living room for 4+ weeks, thought id fit it, problems fitting it, the stainless steel bracket that is used to fit the RS2 Evo IC to the ABY s2 crossmember is useless bolted it all up and the pulley and IC were in constant contact (all new genuine engine and GB mounts fitted 1000 miles ago) so after faffing around for hours spacing the IC from the crossmember and strugling to then fit the bumper took it for a spin

Boost leak (well assumed it was/is)

    right, all off again

checked all the hose connections (including the Mark H mod) all seemed ok

gave it a bit of a giggle with the clips slackened off

went for another drive (bumper off this time)

1 and 2nd gear seemed ok, 3,4,5 and 6 accelerating while keeping an eye on the boost guage (MTM remap 1.4 bar, tails off a bit at redline) 3rd gear floored it, boost shot up to 1.6/7 bar and immidiately tailed off to about .8 same in 4/5th gears

    wouldnt hold boost

back to the drawing board, did this a few more times, same results, no change, bumper back on, leave for another day......

monday, bumper off again, same procedure as befor, same result

    yesterday, bumper off again!

everything off again, changed the Mark H mod pipe and clips for another i had, replaced all the boost pipe clips with new stainless steel ones from the local samco dealer, took it out 1, 2nd again seemed ok, 3,4,5th and 6th ewww horrible!

hessitation under load, low revs wouldnt go above about 75/80mph limped to my parents, checked everything, changed the mark H mod again for the other spare (3 in total tried now!) no change, drove it home last night, same horrible hessitation, struggling to hold motorway speed

drove the car today, befor i set off, had a weird squeeling on idle from the car, so lifted the bonnet, nothing there, revved it a few times, dont know why, but unplugged the N75 valve, then plugged it back in set off, 1st, 2nd felt ok, but only boosting to about 1bar and dropping off rapidly, 3,4,5 and 6th all felt better, no hessitation, but only boosting to around 1bar 3k rpm and dropping off to about .8 by 4k rpm

stopped the car in gravesend, changed the N75 valve with the one off the other avant (unknow condition) disconnected the battery for about 10 mins to clear the ECU and drove to the petrol station, turned out the N75 valve i fitted off the other car was FUBAR only had mechanical boost .4bar stopped at the petrol station, swapped the N75 back, boost restored (well to 1bar-0.8bar )

got onto the A2/M25 to drive home, and the hessitation had come back in 3,4,5 and 6th, not as bad as before but still noticable, could do 80/90/100 pushing through the hessitation, about 10 miles later on the a21 put my foot down and the hessitations gone again, still only the 1bar tailing off to 0.8bar

the other weird thing that started happening last night was the temp guage (water) works intermitantly

    any suggestions?

all was fine befor i fitted the new IC

i agree, just seems a little strange to have no symptoms then change the intercooler and all these problems?

Reason I say that is you mention issues with the temp gauge, sounds like either the sensor is going or more likely the plug is breaking apart, heard of this a few times.

would that cause the problems with the boost though?

Yeah it retards the boost to stop you melting the poor thing AFAIK.

Quite an epic there! If it was boost leaks then you,e expect the overboost protection to kick in rather than a small reduction. Seems that something has got disturbed with all the work. Best to try and get VAGcom on it if there's someone local.

Sorry to hear all that! What a pita. Can you pull any foult codes? If it's the mfts then atleast it's not that big a job to sort out.

Let us know how you get on.

I'd try unplugging it before you order a new one from Audi, they're £103

According to SJM the MFTS doesn't control boost on later cars or have I got that a touch wrong...

                            right, update,
Unplugged the MFTS didnt make a huge difference, was ok to start, couldnt get full boost 1st-4th but 5th and 6th full boost, and it held it no tapering off till v.high up the revs (playing with a 53 plate rs6 (proper v8 one) on the a21, the later on in the day after parking up for a hr or so, the hesitations back, then it cleared away again. Also the fuel consuption seems to be about 40% better!? Other thing, it wouldnt talk to vagcom, my mates vagcom only has one pin on the white K L diagnostic port, shouldnt there be two?
