    Where is the number ?

I don't get it. Motor(engine) number is on the head or on the block , the one that listed in your car passport?

    Thanks.

It should be on the block, near to the front of the exhaust manifold. My car has no engine number on it. The space is empty!

The number is on the cylinder head on the right hand side (turbo side), just below the breather pipe in front.

If you have no number on your engine (should be on the head) then its not the original head/engine, audi left it blank so you can stamp your original number on it.
cant remember where i read that, someone tell me if im talking s**t

So you are telling me that it shouldn't have a number on the block ? It's very important to me as I'm trying to get my new block from russia where it's very strick if you have a number on the block or not.

My car had 7k on the clock when I got it and I am 100% certain it is the original engine.

Sweeper new blocks have no number on them from some car companies and other makers have!

I don't know about Audi, I have never bought a new engine!

Yeah, I remember reading or hearing that the black stamp missing meant that it was an OEM supplied block which should have the original engine code stamped into it...

VAG engines/engine blocks come without numbers. They are meant to be stamped on by the dealer when it's supplied. Not many get done as it's more work

The latest engines use a laser etched number which is supposed to be copied onto the new engine. What dealer has the kit to do that?

I've got a customer at the minute who wants a bulkhead panel. The one with the chassis number stamped on it. They come without numbers too. The only criteria are that I have to keep a record of the logbook and some personal ID for 5 years.

IMHO that makes it far to easy to ring a car. Especially when you can buy VIN plates for £25 no questions asked. Or is it just that I have too many contacts on the wrong side of the law?
