    Strange Missfire Problem

I've Really been Battling with this problem for a whilst Now, I have developed a missfire on cylinder 1.
It started out to be intermittent, it would come and go for short periods of time, usually when the engine is warm.
I started by changing all the usual items, and rulling them out. Spark plugs, Coil Packs , POS stages, now i have a new replica 034 high output ignition system on the car but the miss is still ther.
the miss has deteriorated so that when the car starts the number one cylinder fires for about 5-6 seconds and then thers no spark at all !
With the ignition lead out and a sparkplug wired up it is noticed.

    Any ideas ?

Thanks For the Help guys !!

Since the problem was not the on the coilpacks or plug ends i decided to do a continuity test on the wire from the ECu to the POS stage connector.
Whilst i was opening the ECU connector i notice a few drops of water on my fingers.
Open the ecu harness connector and yikes ! plenty of water !

Upon further investigations, it Seems as though water has been seeping thru the pollen filter into the cabin fan box and somehow down the wiring harness to the computer box.
Since i have been tuning the car the ECU box was lying on the footwell and water has collected into the ECU connector and even in the ECU !
Ive got a fan heater working on the problem atm.

Does the pollen filter supposed to have any cover over it beside the tray that goes across the windscreen ?

No there is no other cover. Quite a few people have encountered this problem... I ended up cutting up a plastic icecream box and placing it over the heater ducting so it still allows air in but no water...

I don't think anyone posted ideas because there were none... you obviously checked everything thoroughly yourself so take the silence as a compliment

There was a thread recently though where someone had problems that appeared to be completely irrational and it came down to the same cause - water in the ECU! I hope there's no damage to it, but I've never had a good experience with recoving water damaged electronics...

I'm not aware of any other cover but perhaps someone has ideas on how to solve the leaking?

HG? Have you done a compression test to check for abnormalities? If it was this bad tho you'd be loosing water and running a bit of a temperature tho.

It just so happens that a little construction is being done at the place next door to mine, so every time i drive the car i give it a quick hose down to rid the dust.
I used to drive for a whilst with no misfire, and then all of a sudden the car starts acting up.
I thaught it was maybe cause of the car getting warm and upto temprature, well it turned out to be that it was just till the water got down the harness to the the ecu connector.

Well it didnt help by having the ECU on the floor of the footwell ( I am in the process of tuning the car) and also another issue is that i have alot of connections from the wiring harness to Aux devices. By splicing into the wires at the ECU connector i guess the re insulation with electrical tape is not good at all and easy for moisture to cause problems.

Well Saying all that and battling with this STUPID problem for half the year, the Car is back on the road and tearing up the streets !
I had a blast in her last nite .... IT's better than Sex I tell ya !!!
