    coil question

    on behalf of a friend.,

can you run the engine with one coilpack removed? for a safe casual distance so as to reach a garage?
if so , should the injector be in place and working to cool the cylinder anyway?

remove the injector plug so it don't wash the oil off the piston, how far has it got to go, remember jas having to drive home on 4 cylinders from one of the shows.

he has do to about 600Kms so its a bit far

would there be any issue with valves getting hot if the injector is off?

        Very Bad And Dangerous Advice

You CANNOT remove an injector from the fuel rail. That woulD leave a large hole through which fuel/petrol/gasoline/benzene would shoot out at at least 4 Bar onto the hot engine. VERY BAD AND DANGEROUS ADVICE.

What you CAN do is LEAVE THE INJECTOR IN PLACE and disconnect the electric connection from the harness to the injector in question. This will shut off the injector and stop it from spraying fuel into the non-igniting cylinder and washing the oil off the cylinder walls.

This is how people die. Somebody tells them something, but they really meant something else. What he said was:

The English language can be precise. If he MEANT remove the injector electrical connector, he needed to say that.

              Sorry, Ich bin Engineer.

No it's not completely safe. But it's safe enough - it will not kill healthy otherwise engine. Excessive (and prolonged) vibrations due to non working cylinder can make a lot of things in engine compartment, like loosening not very tight bolts, killing engine mounts, etc. However with injector plug removed cylinder will be just a compressor which will make ECU think, that you are running really lean. So it will take _loads_ of fuel for those 600km, I think something about 20+ liters/100km on cruising.

Maybe you need to disconnect lambda probe either ?

As for valves - I don't think you need to worry about. They will have proper lubrication, and will be running 5 times cooler cylinder chamber than they do normally.

If I was going to say to him to remove the injector i'd have told him what he'd need to do to remove the injector, still i've changed the original post to add in the word I missed out.

His is going to be really REALLY sick and fed up after 600kms

I used a half tank of fuel from Leeds back home and was still shaking three days later

actually it is the cylinder number 3 and the vibrations are not so strong!

I run the car on VEMS and it goes with the wideband EGO correction. Would it be better to run it with the lambda correction off or not? i can programme it to correct by a smaller bit so it will not be much richer than normal!
