Any help or advice required !

driving home from work yesterday, put my foot down expecting 20 'ish psi of boost instead it sat at 5 psi ! wouldnt go any furnther !!! help

i let it settle (drive without the turbo) try to give it some again and the needle on the boost gauge flys round to over 20 psi and away we go ! wtf !

so i though some weird glitch dont worry ! then it strikes again 5 psi wont go a snitch over. then goes away again

today driving everything seems ok till i get on to a dual carriageway heading home . floor it and 5 psi ! let off and let it settle, try again 5 psi !

any help would be much appreciated !!

the car is a standard rs2 with decat pipes,

within the last 2 weeks i did the maf and IPA dip cleaning trick to try an sort out a long term fault where the car stutters at WOT ! (which didnt fix the stutter prob) if this helps.

what do i look for dont say boost leak please ! i have seen too many members here near suicidal due to boost leaks !

    Cheers David

David, im afraid im gonna have to say a Boost leak is a definte possibility. Have you checked the WG diaphargm?

When was the WGFV and DV last replaced?

could it be the wgfv playing up thus only giving mechanical boost some times?

never changed anything on the the turbo side ! how do i check the diaphagm. undo the bolts and have a look ?

Dv is about to be replaced with a forge type is there anyway of testing this

wgfv = waste gate freq valve ? ........... yes ?

is that the little box where a couple of pipes go into. next to the d/valve ?

i have read before about limp home mode, am i way off thinking this ?

I am going to investigate mine tomorrow.... I got a new one a few months ago but some one snapped it whilst putting it on. With a"Team Bodge" style repair it was fixed. A few days later i thought i would put the old one back on but it did not work; car was running on mechanical boost only,so i put the bodged one back.I recently ordered a new on to put on fitting the samcos but seem to have the same problem again I will probably try the bodged one again tomorrow

David, it should be giving either 0.4 or 0.6bar boost on mechanical. cant remember exactly.

to test your WG you have a little brass pipe on top of it not connected to it, connect a vacuum gauge (e.g. a mitivac) to it, bring it up to pressure and make sure it holds the pressure.

the WGFV controls the amount of boost you can have beyond the mechanical limit by keeping the wastegate closed for longer building up more boost. I think the WGFV is playing up on mine again and it will be the 3rd one ive installed since ive had the car. Generally i change it once a year near enough like a service item along with the bosch DV.

Just thought it could be something else eliminated etc!

David, if you can take your airbox off there's load of stuff around there to check, with clips and pipes etc to look at. Obviously the WGFV connections need looking at from the sounds of it. This is a WGFV (It's my old one, which I use as a spare. Strange how many 'spare' bits I'm collecting right now. Spare cam pulley, gawd knows how many spare studs and nuts for the cams etc etc etc) and I think they cost about £40 new. Worth getting a new un, cause chances are it'll have never been changed, and be tired, like this 10 year old example...
I think a few of us will have spare WGFV knocking about, having had a one time or another, a boost leak to track down
