How to do you remove the distributor from the engine? (7A)

As above please Lads - been trying to revive my old van..

Took off the dizzy cap tonight, unfortunately I also managed to pull the actual plastic plug out that the loom connect into, and couldn't reconnect the wires so think it's ****ed - hence I need to remove the whole thing and replace it! I removed the nut holding the bracket on that keeps it in place, but it won't pull free from the engine as I had expected it to. Now i've had a read through the other threads regarding this and it seems like it's going to be a big job!! So just HOW do I go about removing it?

    Thanks!

sorry I ain't been able to get round yet. To remove the distributor you undo the 13mm nut that holds the bracket in underneath the dizzy once those are out the way its a case of just pulling it out, just remember to mark up the timing on it before you do this so you can put it straight back in. You need to mark the housing and where abouts the rotor arm is inside the cap for ease of firing it up straight away.

which part of the wiring got damaged? the part thats on the dizzy or the part on the engine bay loom that plugs into the dizzy? if its the engine bay loom bit I may be able to get that plug and a bit of wiring from a 20v my mates breaking so you can solder in a new plug.

Hi mate, no worries! If you do get a chance to make it over sometime that'd be cool though
It's the actual plastic plug on the distributor that i've pulled off and pulled the wires out of the distributor in the process, hence I need a new one. I did try to just pull the distributor free once i'd removed the securing bracket but it simply would not pull out and I didn't want to cause any more damage!! How do you line up the timiing properly when the engine is in situe as it's nion impossible to crank the engine by hand when the gearbox is attached etc?
