What symtoms for a faulty Maf on a V6

What are the likely symptoms for a faulty maf on a 2.6 v6, and how do you check/test it.I have no idea whether is the same as the s2 or not ,is it possible to clean it in the same way.

There is no MAF on a 2.6 - not if its an MPFI engine !

What engine code you got there ?
And do you have VAGCOM ?

Thanks for the reply Paul,Its my wife's cabriolet which is a 1996/7,I have no idea of the engine code,as I spend all my time under the bonnet of my 3b.
I will have a look ,its just running badly at the moment no power bad fuel consumption and lumpy idle.My son spoke to a guy and he said its probably the maf, its a common thing on the v6,so me wanting the easy life just put the post up.
I am now shamed but would still like a little help if possible

        .

Sounds more like the lambda with those symptoms...

        Actual drivability?

If its a 2.6 pretty sure it willl be an ABC engine code. The 2.6 didn't have a MAF it had a speed density meter instead, only the 2.8 got a MAF, and they arent really a problem on the 12v moreso on the 30v.
good resource here http://www.12v.org/ for the 2.6 and 2.8 if you didn't know already.

lumpy idle might just be the ISV, give it a clean anyway.

There is a MAP sensor inside the ECU of the ABC engine.

The ISV on these MPFI engines is a stepper motor - different behaviour than you'd be familiar with on S2.

I'd say funny running is more about lambda control than anything else - unless its just at idle then that funky stepper motor comes into play.

I have some diagnostic info on the ABC engine - so with VAGCOM data can determine what is healthy or not.

I was getting at the MAF being an issue on the Vee's, on the B4 cars they don't fail as regular as the B5 onward cars. It is on the 30v's but not the 12v's.
Never had an issue with lambdas on any of the Audi Vee's I have had, but lumpy idle has been ISV's on 2 of 3 Vee's.

Lumpy idle could also possibly be the throttle body, they have a crankcase breather which (if not blocked) spits on the primary aperture, on low throttle it can be sticky, worth opening up and giving it a bloody good clean anyway.

Does VAGCOM pick up a faulty lambda? on the ABC's? i dunno!

Thanks you all for your help, the v6 is a bit of a mystery to me.
I drove the car tonight and it dos feel under powered and not as smooth as is should be, plus it runs a little cold which I think is the thermostat, I need to do this along with a cam belt change, the main problem is the fuel consumption, it is pretty poor at the moment,so I think I will try and get the codes reedI assume this is straight forward.

I hope the ABC is easier to read than my first series AAH (2.8) - It has now been tried on ~10 code readers and laptops of various types.

just to clarify the economy you should be getting mid 30's on a run with a FWD ABC.
I would agree get codes read first, then take it from there.
