basically you need rods thats whats being said.
my take is.
up to 400hp fit rods and a turbo and manifold and away you go. you will need an exhaust and a map with the appropriate fuel supplied.
dont mess with cams and porting or the reverse inlet until over the 400hp in the process of making more. the engine will perofrm a lot nicer that way too.Comment

It's the torque, not HP, that causes the rods to turn to banana's. There's guys running 420-450hp on stock rods, you just need to limit torque in teh mid-range to ~550NM. Personally, go for the rods though or your remap will have to be a comprimise, which I don't think you would be happy with (I wasn't, hence i did the rods
)
The KKK turbo's are hard to say, there are so many variants and hybrids that nobody wants to tell you it'll do 450hp only for you to find it's only capable of 370hp... twoqu knows more about KKK turbo's than most so pay attention to his post. Personally I'd go for something with newer technology but if you did the rods and had MRC remap it I'd be surprised if they couldn't push it to 400+hp. If you can find a compressor map for the K27 3072 comp wheel it should give you an idea of what it can flow?

OK, not so sure that is correct, did a quick conversion into cfm and the coldside looks to be capable of 2bar from 4,000rpm until the redline giving ~475hp, and capable of pushing into the 500s with more boost... sounds too high to me, anyone else? Unless that is correct and the hotside would limit it?

I would love to be able to squeeze 475 ponies from this turbo, If all I needed was a 3" downpipe a Re-map and a high flow SS exhaust, but im guessing its probably impossible! lolOK, not so sure that is correct, did a quick conversion into cfm and the coldside looks to be capable of 2bar from 4,000rpm until the redline giving ~475hp, and capable of pushing into the 500s with more boost... sounds too high to me, anyone else? thats on the high side. its about balance. the turbo wont do it all. its like repo's build of that monster. theres a lot more to the engine to make that power and rpm than the turbo. proble lots of turbos could do it with such a good engine build.
the 3" will be needed. straight through ideally. im no expect on kkk units but it sounds from the comp map description a little smaller than the unit i run.
475 i think will require a better intercooler and really the inlet swap.
do it in stages. get a full system and have it mapped on bigger injectors for around the 400 mark. then see if you need any more. if you do save for a wagner full kit and another remap.
first rods. its not worth the risk. ther is no defined limit on what the can take as they are all different but when the go its game over.Comment

I'd have to disagree there I'm afraid Gazza, may be right for some but I think not for Frazer... find a goal and do it in one go. Stages = very expensive. Unless your not going to pull the engine for he first stage of course. I'd say do it once and do it right.AUDI - saving Dad's from minivans since 1994

thats fair. im used to building and mapping myself. if you dont touch cars then best to set a hp target and agree with tuner a deadline for return and away you go.
sometimes its nicer to tune in bits oterwise the journey is over so much sooner. after the turbo and the exhaust i went straight to vems so i suppose i overlook the revisits to tuners.Comment

im not sure with the rods which is why i feel better safe than sorry. no point detuning a tuned build to save rods.
i remember they used to say 360lbsft on the 16vt and no more. that would be more like 450lbsft on the I5. even if we use a bit of a safety margin at 300lbsft on the 16v then thats 375lbsft on the I5
im not sure so went with priority of keeping the bottom end alive so fitted them. the last dyno i did no stock rods was limited to 5k and it did 321lbsft at that. still on the climb but out of juice.Comment

Best I've seen is 412ftlbs at 4100rpm at 2 bar boost. That is torque measured at the wheels. Stock bottom end. Running on E85 alcohol.
As a comparison, a fully built stage 5 Hohenester Rs2 (rated at 550nm/404ftlbs crank) that we also tested yielded 296ftlbs at the wheels. Running on 98 octane petrol.Last edited by EspenW; 8 July 2009, 16:20.1995 RS2 on Alcohol (6.8sec 100-200km/h)
