I've never thought to check if the MPI engines do this.....

It would appear NOT from the MPI factory info I have... no mention of burnoff and can't see it in the MAF part of schematic...

Its possible that on some cars the burnoff sequence has failed (easy to test this with the MAF disconnected from airbox - you should see the MAF wire glow red for about a second and you might even hear the relay click inside the ECU).

The other reason why I think the MAF bath is sometimes lauded as the great saviour is that the multipin connector on the MAF is the main fault - with poor/dirty contacts that cause a kak signal into the ECU. I know a few people have had 'miracle cures' to various ills just be cleaning or reseating the MAF connector.

Agree with Paul 100%. My MAF wires have always been perfect to look at but if they do appear brown then worth doing & then sorting the oil breather system !

                .

On my previous, lesser,Turbocharged veee-hicle,I did this once every 10k.

I didnt use isopropyl alcohol (correct spelling) but Carb Cleaner.....held at a distance of 7-8 inches from the Plat Wire.I was told to only spray it in the direction of flow of air. This information came from Bosch themselves, indirectly (!),through the gent who remaps the Boost/Timing ECUs for LE-Jet.

This Volvo, too, had the info centre in-dash and gave higher readings for MPG.

Summit tells me Jamo will know exactly of whom the Groom speaketh!
