MY RS2 Respray & 500-600bhp Upgrade. Any Comments Lads?

    So.......
My lovley RS2 in Polar Silver is going away for a month to be painted from top to bottom, New Door Strips, New Screen etc, all the parts have arrived, but I need to get the awesome power that some of you guys have......some 5-600bhp Power!

Im thinking (afterr a lot of help from you guys)
    New Uprated Rods &ARP Bolts
    New Pistons
    Stock Crank?
    Highly Ported rs2 head
    Uprated Cams
    MTM Reverse Manifold
Tubular or MTM s1 Ex MANIFOLD
Custom Completley Sealed off COLD Airfilter Section
    Unsure of What Turbo
    MAF moved to other side
    Bosch High Presure Fuel Pump
    Uprated Injectors
    Custom Downpipe in SS 3.5"
Full Ti or SS 3.5 " Exhaust System
    New Oil & Water Pumps

I was originally looking at 450bhp, but then it seems that 500bhp is getting more acheivable, but then 600 sounds sooooo niceeee! Lol

    :-)

      - stock crank is no problem, just balance all before assembly
      - dont forget the steel crank sprocket
      - titanium exhast, waste of money ss is good enough.
      - i would put in new valve seals and stiffer springs also
      - tubular manifold before s1, the s1 cost many £££i guess = waste of money, could work in the pub though.
      - wagner intercooler also..

One thing i've learned we are way behind the Scandinavians!

New Uprated Rods &ARP Bolts - yup will be needed
New Pistons - standards good for 600+
        Stock Crank? - afaik same
Highly Ported rs2 head - even a mildly ported one should be good enough
Uprated Cams - just 7a exhaust
MTM Reverse Manifold - wagner would have been better id have thought?
Tubular or MTM s1 Ex MANIFOLD - wagner again
Custom Completley Sealed off COLD Airfilter Section - keep your rs2 airbox if you can depending on turbo
        Unsure of What Turbo
        MAF moved to other side
Bosch High Presure Fuel Pump - yup 044
Uprated Injectors - speak to audiman about some of his one's
        Custom Downpipe in SS 3.5"
Full Ti or SS 3.5 " Exhaust System
        New Oil & Water Pumps

why should he change the mtm intake manifold to wagner? they look almost the same so i dont think he will gain any huge powers thru this..

Edit: you already had the mtm right? otherwise wagner is good

          Edit 2:

uudinrs2newcastle: forget this mtm thing, the sure have an bling-bling factor, but there is way more parts that works at least as good as these,

Mtm and Dahlbäck are ppl that have built an huge reputation and sell parts well overpriced.

No offence to the companies though, Mtm did an great work in the 90´s on the rs2´s! but as said, you get at least same things for less money these days

          IMO!

Im going to be honest lads, one reason im not so keen to start a project is that I started a 500hp Nissan 200sx project a few years ago, and I got bored, and sold the project on! I love audi rs2s, but I worry that I waste a lot if time and money and never get it finished!

Thats why im keen on getting some master of the I5 to make me a beast for under the bonnet of the rs2!

But if I get a spare engine, maybe I cud do it to that before I remove the rsss2 unit and have her off the road for longer than I would like?

an replacement motor is a great idea if you have the funds, drive and fix with the other engine at the same time, thumbs up from me.

In that case I'd ask the question - do you really know what you want out of the car?

I agree with most of whats been suggested here except for one thing - stiffer valve springs - utter tosh... You actually want valve springs to be as light and flimsy as you can get away with so as to reduce parasitic loss... The valve springs need only be strong enough to prevent valve float at high rpm - now unless you are significantlt raising the rev limit on this thing - and going to solid lifters as a result - the stock springs will be just fine.

I'm actually not sure what the the best turbo would be for ~600bhp on 2226cc if it is to remain a roadgoing machine. Something GT42 springs to mine but I dare say the likes of Repo could recommend something from CompTurbo catalog that would be a nicer fit... I would also take his advice on things like camshaft suggestions which have been proven in that territory.

Reckon on injectors that are sized for 600-650ccpm at 3bar whilst you run at 4bar to keep good headroom.

As to fuelling - not checked yet but fuel for 600bhp is probably a stretch for single 044 pump - the 5bar version anyway - you might need some exotic fuelling here - with twin pumps and collector tank. Speak to terrybullwon... Again check that the 8mm diameter of fuel line is good for 600bhp - I think it is - would have to check.

Another thing - you should try to get out in a ~600bhp S2/RS2 before you commit to this - sure it'll be great at WOT - but WTF is it like in normal driving conditions - and how is the transition from gentle to mental when driving it ?

600BHP on the road will be **** to drive.

Stick with 450bhp and you will have the best of both worlds...

                            GT35r will make 600 bhp on a 2.2 S2 with a .82 housing

I'd be looking at the CT turbo Terrybullwon has though instead as finally after seeing a graph looks like it can do what it says on the tin.

Ahhh freaky - well done Jamo - I just found an old spreadsheet dyno for Dougs 600bhp machine and that was GT35R of some sort... On paper you need 2.5bar boost and solid lifters for that to rev safely into 8000rpm country. Adds significant expense and complexity.

I agree with Phatty that a well sorted 400-450bhp setup is better suited to road use. There is always a danger of 'mine is bigger than yours' mindset on forums like this but you need to be honest enough with yourself and genuine about the goals for such projects. Sure you might end up with a dragstrip 600bhp monster (as long as you don't mind tearing up driveshafts as well) but is it really gonna be faster from A-B on open roads - I'm not talking about closed rally stages here...
