Paul: many ppl here drive swith lighter hydraulic lifters and stiffer valvesprings up to 8000rpm..
with solid you can rev 12k rpm, drysump though, oilpump starts to get bad at 8500rpm, so 8000 revlimit is an good idea
One thing i've learned we are way behind the Scandinavians!Comment

So yeah -the question is how the likes of Doug and James get on with theirs in normal daily driving. Maybe the G-Force rush when its on boost makes up for things. I dunno, but again - how often can you properly open the taps on the street to unleash 600 ponies ?
For me personally 100bhp per corner is plenty adequate and you still have a very tractable engine that pulls cleanly and strongly from low revs - but I appreciate this is a very subjective topic. Once you start into reduced compression ratio (say 8:1 versus factory 9.1 or 9.3) so you can run 2.5bar boost - then you fundamentally change the character of the engine. Thats my thoughts on the matter.Paul Nugent

@lind4hl - maybe I wasn't clear... I agree stiffer springs are required for increased rpm range - to prevent valve float - but they are NOT required with stock rpm limit - otherwise you just add to parasitic losses without any upside.Paul Nugent

i will be using a holset which is capable of 600 but will be running lower boost at the beggining so as to get around 500hp.aim will be spooling @ around 4000rpm on 3d gear which is lovely on a road car. not too much lag there, cause if you even have 1bar @ 3500 on these turbos, its quite fast anywayComment

Assuming you can get your hands on bioethanol, I recommend a setup based on a 450hp setup (3071, Netics E50, CT..., etc). Running this at elevated boost (2bar+) on E85 will yield approx 500hp at the crank, and a twisted amount of torque. Lots of horsepower from approx 3800rpm right to the limiter. This makes for a lot of average horsepower and a very fast car that is still street friendly.1995 RS2 on Alcohol (6.8sec 100-200km/h)

That is weird. Around here, 99 octane is approx £ 1.30 per litre.
E85 was until recently approx. £0.77 per litre. Using 40% more fuel, that makes an equivalent cost of 1.08/litre.
Less expensive and provides 10-25% more power and torque than petrol.1995 RS2 on Alcohol (6.8sec 100-200km/h)

Actually I am wrong. Last time I saw prices was last year when proices were very high and now E85 is same price as petrol, but still only a handful of outlets where you can buy it in the UK so far - we are a few years behind the rest of Europe
With 40% more fuel that means it is roughly 40% more expensive than petrol
All becasue the UK government are retarded

Yeah, I think i have been subject to 'keeping up with the Jones' in terms of what hp I want and actually Need. I think somewhere around 500 bhp would be nice, so its faster than the Mercedes 63amg's that we run at work as the AMG test drive fleet, but keeping the engine a stock looking as possible with Black Samcos, an immaculate body and 1/2 grey alcantara and nappa trim inside.
I do want it as a daily 'Mental Fast' driver, but the track and the fast roads will see her opened up very regularly, so after youe advice, maybe 600 is way too much for me. Its crazy in our CL65 AMG, never mind the RS2 shell! :-)Comment

Fraser having owned a couple of RS2s both standard + fried 360hp and also driven a 450hp one id say 450hp is as much as youd need for the uk roads and the odd track day
S2 + RS2 yep ive had a few love em... Laser red S2 avant... Brilliant black lhd RS2... Polar silver RS2... RS blau RS2... CheeRS Al

My GT3071 3B coupe was 430hp, weighed about 200kg less than the RS2, I wouldn't have wanted any more power than that at all! It was mental. I guess that would equate to about 450-500hp in RS2 weight.
Personally I would not go for the 500+, you want to retain driveablilty and reliability for a daily driver. My set-up was on an RS2 EM and IC and injectors (the limitation on my setup) with a single Bosch 044 fuel pump. So close to what you have already but with the Garrett turbo. I did have forged rods on my rebuild but a bit of torque limitation in the mid-range would keep it within limitations of stock.
Sale of your old RS2 bits would cover a large amount of the cost of replaement Wagner IC, EM and bigger injectors which would see you over 450hp safely, and if you're doing a rebuilt then do some headwork and a forged & balanced bottom-end for a bullet-proof engine. There are turbo's other than the Garrett out there too, but i think something with good spool and a top-end limit of 500hp would be ideal for you.AUDI - saving Dad's from minivans since 1994
