    coil pack questions

My 90 Q S4 is looking to be tuned on Vems within a couple of weeks. Im looking for something in the range of 425-450 crank HP.

Before the car is to be tuned i want to check if my coil pack is working ok. I red somewhere that the coil pack form AAN engine arent the best there are. Since im running an AAN engine i was wondering how bad these coilpack are.

So is there a way to check if my coilpacks are still ok? Are they AAN coilpack good enough for my HP goal ? if not what would be the right alternative?

    Who can help me out?

AAN OE coil packs are good but they are also expensive. Plus the external Power Output Stages (POSs) are subject to failure. Alternatives for that level of HP include the 034 "HO" coil kit and the EFIexpress LS2 coil kits. The EFI LS2 coil kit is the least expensive of the two at about US$425. The LS2 "kit" can also be done as a DIY at lower cost.

I run my car with the ABY coils and 425-450 HP (GT3071R) without problems. I think they can handle much more without the need to upgrade to HO coils

If your car is not holding back or not running on 4 cyl it should be fine.
I had a broken coil once, and the car stuttered sometimes under normal cruising, just before it broke down and started to run on 4 cylinders. But after 16 years of age these things wear out some day.

First of all, I would never call the OE AAN, ABY or ADU coils "coilpacks". They have no built-in Power Output Stage (POS) and are totally passive coils. One procedure to check your coils for relative power is contained in this post regarding tracking down a miss or hesitation:

            Hope that helps.
