Plenty running pretty close to that number (myself included) reliably and have been for several years. Obviously fairly easy to go much further than 300bhp but for that the serious money needs to be paid

so its not really a question of 3b or aby /aan then? - id like to achieve 300hp and a max of 350hp i have no interest of going any further

Its kind of difficult deciding where to spend the cash - whatever i get it will be stripped for a major overhaul anyway -
although i have seen urs4 and urs6's for sale too so at the mo i kinda dont know what to do - my old s2 i enjoyed no end it really was the best car ive ever had so i just want that back really - but some tosspot nicked it !

Sorry to hear about someone nicking your car.

280hp is easy with just a generic remap.

If you want to spend a bit more you can achieve 300 buy adding an exhaust, rs2 airbox etc.

for 350hp you need to start spending a fair amount as you will need a new turbo etc but internals should be fine as long as its properly mapped.

imo, get a s2, then get a generic set of chips from someone like MRC for £250. and when you get board of that think again..

On the 3B you need to change the head gasket from paper to metal also you'd need the ABY / RS2 hardened bearing.

Headgasket being critical, Audiman tried it and blew it within days

                Thats debatable imo.
HG is only essential is your going for more then generic chips. I ran my 3b with 1.5bar boost for a couple of years and it was fine..

Basically stock internals are fine with a stock turbo, the RS2 turbo can be used with care, as can a small hybrid (Nothele or MTM style).

The bearings are either the main crank or big end bearings off an ADU (RS2).

1.5 is K24 boost as soon as you change the turbo to RS2 or larger it's required.

                            Yep notably the 93 models

For Bo, the words of MRC and Audiman posts 2 & 3 notice the gasket failed on 1.5 bar boost
