    Oil pressure - 1994 S2 Avant

Hi guys, just a really quick one i hope, just wanted to check what the noraml operating oi lpressure was?
On normal driving shes reading bout 4.5 and ticking over about 2 is this normal? Temp seems fine at about 90 on normal runs.
Just a quick question but thanks in advance.

Phew! just one of those things. I was driving her in to work this morn and listening and looking for little things and the oi l pressure just stuck in my head. Probaly due to the fact that shes just had a oil overhaul with new cooler etc so i am just being paranoid!!
      Thanks tho Dest

Oil temperature should stay comfortably between the 90 and 130 degree marks unless the vehicle is driven at very high speed for prolonged periods on a hot day
Btw, all S2 I've drived, had 5bar when cold (above and below 2000rpm), 4,5bar when hot @ 2000rpm, 1,5-2bar on idle.

Sounds tickedy boo AFAIK the oil cooler is on a thermostat so you need to get the oil temp up before it's used properly.

on a similar vein...my oil pressure fluctuates a bit...dropping down to 1.2 at a standstill in traffic and for example at the next set of lights its at 2 bar....anyone have any ideas??....oil pump??...end bearings??..
              pressure sensor??....
              I am hoping something simple...

When was the oil last changed?
My blue one used to drop to near 1bar when it was VERY hot weather in standstill traffic

Use a thicker oil if you're on W40 then go to W50 or even W60, that's the easiest starter for 10 IMO.

during the track days i were at with the Rs2 i had 0.8bar oil pressure as minimum, and the bearings are looking really good.

i used a Castrol oil (dont remember exact info) and that oil works down to 0,5bar pressure

One thing i've learned we are way behind the Scandinavians!

only a few '00 miles ago...I had the bright idea to use mobil 1... bad idea so dropped it after about 400 miles....I am using castrol magnatec 15-40w fully synthetic

it does normally drop to the 1.2 bar when stationery..after the usual start stop traffic

cheers rusty that might be my next option....it just makes me VERY nervous...and waiting for my engine to blow...

I've got the same issue, down towards 1bar at idle, I am using 5w 40 sully synthetic, so going to try a 10w50 or a 15w50.

TBH I think some of it is using thin oil and some due to worn bearings and pump - I really want to get an accurate pressure gauge on it to see how close to the truth the aux gauge is actually reading.

Oil pressure isn't everything as Oilman says in his threads I see 1 bar 2 bar at hot idle
