    coilpack un-install question

want to remove the 5 coil packs from the loom and cover (std aby coils) do they undo at each coil at what appears to be the conector, if so any advice as these look very dilicate, also, how do i test the impediance/resistance of each of them?

The coils are hard wired all the way from the coil to the power connectors on the fire wall and from the coil to power output stages on the firewall. No intermediate connectors at the coil.

When I tried to remove one coil pack a few years ago I broke the connector on the coil immediately. Due to the heat the plastic of the connector gets very weak. I had to rewire that one coil up to the loom connector that goes on to the POS.
My advise is to keep the 5 coils fitted on the cover to avoid these problems in case you sell all 5 coils.

I tried to test my coils last week to measure impedance by checking the pins on the white and brown (from my head) connectors. The easiest way to find the right pins, when you don't know the pin numbers) is by randomly measuring with a audible resistance measurements tool, like most multi-meters have.

My coils measured all 5 on average 1 Ohm, varying from 0.9 - 1.1 Ohm.

You actually need a conductance meter (reciprocal of resistance) to measure coil low tension circuit anyway accurately. There are other threads on this subject across the forum.
