    Water & oil temps

I suspect that my thermostat is fooked - on cold nights my car will 'warm up' to 70-75 degrees but won't get beyond that. Does this confirm a cooked thermostat? Fuel consumption is ridiculous as I think the ECU is running in warm-up mode almost all the time.

Also, the oil temp barely gets to 70 with hard driving... The oil temp. sensor was broken and repaired recently so I think this may be a gauge reading issue. Could there be another reason why the oil isn't warming up properly?

Just had the 'stat changed on mine... warms up to ~90 in about 5 mins and stays there and I definately think the fuel economy is better now.
Before that, like yours would hover in the 70's.

Hard driving in the summer see's my oil temp up to 130, and a minimum of 90 deg C once warmed up. I would suggest you need to check it out. Where you start I don't know!

      Cheers.

My water temp, gets to 90, but if I'm in traffic, in Hot weather it will go past 90, to nearer 100. The fan does kick in, is this normal?????

Mine will approach 100 when very hot in traffic. As long as the fan drops it to 90 - 92,93 Deg C you should be fine. A water system can climb to a little over 100 anyway as it is pressurised and will not boil.

T-stat water temp is 90 except in stop and go driving in the city. Oil temp is around 60 except after long runs on the Autobahn where I can see 110.

What is significantly different are the time constants. Water temp moves in minutes. Oil temp will take 4 hours high speed driving to move above 60. The oil temp sensor seems to work, it just takes a helluva time getting there. Never been able to figure out why.

The oil temperature timing you talk about is interesting. It takes about 5 -10 minutes to get from 60 deg C to 90, then I can get up to 110 - 120 deg in another few minutes if I boot it....

This is of course what I would expect. Like I say, I can't figure it.

My oil temperature sits at about 60-70 degrees, after a seriously long caining the oil might hit 80 degrees, but i have never seen it go to 100.
Is this a good sign or a bad un?

For the oil to take that long to warm up if thats accurate, might be the oil thermostat stuck open?

Which would assist cooling, but i cant see how it can take that long at all, even if that was stuck open, doesnt sound like your sender is accurate
