Why do you still need to vent to MAF? I thought the trumpet-style vent would blow off the pressurized air to atmosphere?

because even though i dont need it with VEMS, i still like the idea that on the bigger turbo, some of the air will be vented back to the turbo to keep it spinning. Small amount, but still there.

i may be using 2 DVs on that setup as well. But i just wanted to try this hybrid one anyway

the turbo should keep spinning with the inertia by then. if the bov opens properly then the pressure to slow it wont be there.

that warm air you vent back has already been boosted.

would be nice to see a AIT graph of recirced air v BOV. not sure how really relevent it us until then.

On a side note placing the recirc on the throttle pipe next to the throttle makes no odd to the AIT, the air has to go back through the IC still, infact you theoretically hurt performance recircing air after the IC.

The charge system is like a big pipe filling with air, if you remove air at the top then the pipe has to refill before entering the throttle.

Removing air at the bottom keeps the air in the pipe but stops it filling anymore and on throttle opening you have access to the air instantly.

This is why the OEM is in the position it is and why Garrett recommend the recirc / BOV being as close to the turbo as possible.

understand your point here jamo. never really thought of it like that. the old school was always to put the bov as close to the tb as possible. makes sense what you say and thats why ours are down there.

what i was aiming at was is there any impact on AIT and therfore performance by recirculating boosted air. even moreso pre cooler. i know on the corrado G60 removing the recirc pipe as it was and blanking the charger or fitting a second filter lowered ait dramatically. now those are providing positive pressure all the time so that may have some bearing.

really although this is theoretical talk and could be all correct, i think it is negligent.

If we want to continue on that one though, someone might say that with the DV being closer to the TB that helps the backflow of air that would go all around the piping through the intercooler and to the turbo,to go away faster through the sucking motion done by the DV,hence that being more efficient way of eliminating the damaging backlfow air to the turbocharger.

If we are recirculating that air now,on a spinning turbo, that would be a tiny extra help i guess, maybe more on a larger turbo when it drops to the dead area.

i run 2 dv's on my system...i have a turbo smart very close to the compressor and have a bailey one ,very close to the throttle body....under low boost the bailey one dumps, under high boost applications they both go off...both blow off to atmosphere

the turbosmart ones are good. that looks liek a supersonic or similar. for me the trumpets are the issue with space. my vport style one fits in no problem.

                          do we need 2 unless venting 2+bar on a gt35R +?

No, i dont think 2 are needed as they already vent a lot of air.

Im running two vports on mine but its a bit over kill, in hindsight this would have been better! http://www.turbosmartonline.com/index.php?id=115

thats what i was getting at.

ive heard of monster builds blowing the safety on oldertype valves due to lack of airflow.

we run just shy of 2 bar on a T04R on a 2.35 impreza which is very large and only 1 valve no issues. it was a gfb but bigger than the one i have which is just like a vport.

99% or us can get away with a smallish valve on the standard pipe. i recommend if you up the boost up the valve quality but miss out the middle ground of forge and bailey

than newer valve is similar to a tial or greddy by the looks of it.
