The head has been gas flowed/ported and rebuilt. And the cost real would be £1200 if you allow a £1000 for the sale of the buyers ABY engine. Still seems cheap to me.

Also a lot of engines would have a lot more mileage and need other work as well.

You need to look at the whole picture Jamo

Mike you can try my MAF if you like. Car is just sat in the garage at the moment until later on this month. Do you want to pop over?

Seem's a fair price to me as it includes a gas flowed rebuilt head, rs2 manifold and MTM hybrid turbo on top of the rest of the standard engine parts. Any ABY owner would be able to sell their engine for around £1000 and have got nearly a almost £4000 uprade at a fraction of the original price.

Dude have you tried the thing with wiggling the MAF connector yet, just to rule it out.

It may well be a bad MAF - but it matters not a jot if it is S2 or RS2 MAF - they are the same animal except the screens. RS2 one is a tad less restrictive.

WIth funny running it is always good to have another good MAF to try - they are difficult wee ******s to fault find accurately unless you have datalogging capability...

Well, fitting an S2 MAF will give you a good idea if thats the cause of your issues, if it is, then buy a new one

The only difference between and S2 and RS2 MAF is the screens on the end

not the whole engine.....but it would make a deal of sense of water causing problems...

the over fueling issue was there before the PCV/cleaning work...

as for the MAF...it has always had an RS2 one on..previous owner 'addition'....is it worth sticking a new S2 one on...to make sure.....

What would having an RS2 MAF actually make a difference performance wise?....

Thanks guys for all the help.....
I was starting to look at getting rid after all the problems over the last few months...

I also think the engine wash is a very possible cause - I was careless / unlucky once doing these and had some funny running until it all dried out sweet...

Engine was cleaned!!! There could be all sorts going on here. Could be misfiring due to water in the plug holes and that might be causing the black smoke and stalling?? Take the coil packs out and make sure its all dry in there
