    Displacement

Hi, using an aby engine what are the different methods i could use to get more displacement? I have heard a lot about different blocks, crankshafts or pistons?

Just need to get a basic idea of what is used and maybe the easiest to way get to 2.5-2.6, somebody said about using a 2.5 diesel block is this true?

    Cheers Mike

Yes its true. Some members of here uses 2.5 TDI block (AAT/AEL mostly). Check out for example these projects that are based on a 2.5 tdi block: http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6797 and http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20472

Cool, interesting read! Do you know exactly what models these engines come in, not too sure myself?

AAT is in 94-97 A6,early 100s had AAS/AAR (from memory) which look the same but are missing vital sensors.

The easiest way is not the diesel block but the 92.8 crank you can buy from C&R enterprises or 034.

This way you can keep stock block and rod length and you then only need custom pistons and block skirt clearancing.

Diesel block route though will give you more torque at expense of less revs

                .

                7A block + 92.8 crank = 2.4lts...

AAT & AEL from 91-97 100/A6, or transporter/eurovan versions in the t4 chassis, or volvo 850 and some others. TDI block is the best, naturally aspirated blocks do not have oil injection under pistons and lack the flywheel sensor holes.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated!

Just one more query, what is the rev limit on the 7a compared to the 2.5 tdi block?

                          Cheers Mike

I've got a 2.5 block setup and uses a 7500 limit. 8000 is possible, but will shorten engine lifespan a bit.
A 4.2 R8 engine got 92.8mm stroke and have a 8250 redline so high rpm's are possible even with long stroke

Both will rev to stock rev limit just the longer the stroke the more laboured it will seem getting up there

They do put strain on piston rings so if it's a daily look for a 6500-7200 rev limit to limit stress.
