Hall sender behind the cam pulley,at the front of the rocker cover is the most likely cause. You will See the plug in end of the sensor. poor a little water down there and if it starts, there's your culprit.Do a search on here and it will tell you what else you need to know.

Could also be fuel pump, mine died within minutes of an easy restart ( @ 120 K ). Try Ohmmeter on fuel pump fuse terminals ...open circuit = dead pump.

no immobiliser fitted to mine as its in type85, but it wont start so i dont need one anyway!
Had advice from an expert who thinks crank sensor is dirty
could get 3 of the 4 allen bolts out, 4th beat me n i gave up b4 smashing the car up(i ve a little temper)
Will attack it again soon with some long mole grips!
@220bhp, that was also suggested, but the car wont start from cold, so the sender isnt getting hot

            bump!
Removed the crank sensor after a lot of arguing with the last allen head bolt-damn you things!
And cleaned a small amount of dirt of them but still won t start
            turns over quick enough
            fuel pump working
whats the best(safest way to check for fuel actually being delivered on this engine?)
on a kv i d just crack the joint to see if there was pressure.
Also whats the spark plug gap supposed to be, thought id check plug colour while i was around that way.
Nice colour but gaps seemed bit big

Have you got an ignition node tester to see if the injectors are firing?

Sighhhhhhhh - put a 5V LED between pins 2 of the camshaft sensor plug and ground... If it doesn't blink once with every cam rotation then it is dead.

ABY needs just three sensors to be operational for a start condition - good signals from crank position sensor, rpm sensor and camshaft sensor. RPM has to be above minimum cranking speed for the fuel pump to be activated, but you get ZERO sparks until it knows where the camshaft is.

Dunt matter if its a Typ85 or a Model T Ford - if someone fitted the ABY engine and loom into it - then they should have hooked up the OBD plugs !

Let me know if you want help to retrofit the OBD plugs - its really rather easy if you know what connects where.

thanks S2 central, i will do if you can pm details
no plugs wired up, i think all the connections are still there, found the wires when i checked ecu etc fuses, using your excellent diagrams
I m new to electrics like this
spent more time fiddling with carb cars (v8s, jag 6s etc) than anything like this

Using my ABY wiring loom guide - simply find the K & L pins and hook them up to white OBD plug.
Then wire up 12V & 0V to black OBD plug and you can go VAGCOM.

Alternatively - hook up a MIL bulb (via Blue OBD) and you can blink codes out.

All part numbers for OBD plugs in my wiring guide.
