Gents, I've just gone to start my car and f***all is happening. Now the ingnition lights come on and i've tried to also start it with a Snap On battery booster, but she's just not turning over.
Now I'm thinking it's one of two things...............
Check the main engine earth near the starter motor.
Check you have 12V at the heavy duty cable on the starter motor all the time (check the lug of the motor not the cable itself)
Check you have a 12v feed on the small cable on the starter motor when you try and crank the engine (may need a helper for this bit)
If all this checks ok and the connection of the small wire on the motor is good then the motor is duff.
If you have voltage problems then thats another story!

Fortunately the car broke down at a rather large Audi main dealer and so I should be able to get it on a ramp tomorrow. Oh and there's a couple of old school Audi guys there who used to work on S2's back in the day

It's a good thing in my case Tom as I happen to work there. Oh and the guy who usually helps me with my car is one of the best Audi mechanics I've ever seen
Well the ignition switch is dead easy to root cause - just bypass it with the right jumpers into the multi-pin plug... need to know what pins though <cough>.
Thats lucky for you then Glad to hear that some Audi dealers can still carry out good work on cars, esp. older stuff like the S2. My local dealer would have NO IDEA what to do/where to start if you droppped off an S/RS2! I only ever used them for 4 wheel alignment and i have stopped letting them do that now!

This happened to me twice ,first time ignition switch broken inside the barrel, plastic bit wares inside ,it will turn the ignition on but wont engage the starter,to fix it you have to replace the barrel, about £60.
The unfortunate thing is it means a different key for the ignition or more money to use the same key,and as all the keys look the same believe me this is a pain in the dark or when you are in a hurry, you always insert the wrong key.
Second time it was the small wire on top of the starting motor, its a spade fitting and can work loose. If it is this you must connect it to the right male connection as for some unknown reason there are two, if it is the cause then no damage will be done putting it on the wrong one ,it simply wont start so try the other.

Well after a quick look with one of the guys from work, it looks like the ignition starter switch might be the cause, and fortunately this is available separately from the barrel. Cost should be around the £25 mark.
Well I've now changed the ignition switch as everything seemed to be pointing to this and sure enough there was a large crack just where it plugs in to the back of the ignition barrel. So problem solved, or so I thought.............................
Then last night I went to start it again and hey presto, nothing. Ignition lights come on but she just doesn't turn over. So I'm now thinking that the aftermarket immobiliser is playing up. Any other thoughts gents?
