RS2 won't start and oil pressure warning comes on

RS2 has been unused for a couple of months while I was away overseas. Upon return it won't start first attempt and after I release the key, but leave ignition on, the oil pressure warning light comes on. On previous days vehicle has eventually started and everyhing then seems OK, but today wn't even start. Problem has never occurred prior to my trip overseas. Any ideas where I should start looking? ... thanks.

The oil pressure warning light will always be on if you turn the ignition on but can't start the car. It has no oil pressure because it is not running.

Does the car turn over but not fire and catch or is it completely dead?

Give us a little more detail and we can try and help.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

Agreed with Steve... No start can have a few root causes. Obviously its helpful to know if its trying to fire or not. Some suggestions - also linked to whatever security is on your car - often worth checking that as well. Pull fault codes as that should tell you something for a no start.

      0 - Check all engine related fuses - 13, 24,27,28 & 32 on RS2

1 - Ignition switch... Sometimes they just die a death - others go intermittent for a while

2 - Starter solenoid - you either get 'nothing' when you turn the key or an empty 'clunk' of the solenoid doing very little. FLywheel doesn't turn here so thats an easier one

3 - Fuel pump gets activated by Relay 10 - when triggered by the ECU - when its happy the engine is cranking fast enough (G28 sensor). Sometimes you get bad contacts or a duff relay that fails to make a good connection.

4 - ECU needs good signals from crank ref sensor (G4) as well as rpm sensor (G28) - worth checking them both

5 - ECU needs signal from camshft sensor (G40) as well to differentiate position of cyl #1 - a simple LED tester will determine if G40 is providing a pulse - these sensors do just fail over time. One day fine, next day bad.

Your immobiliser might be cutting supply to the fuel pump or the ECU - you'll need to get the multimeter out and get into the wiring to verify that is OK.

Thank goodness for forums (he said wih egg on his face!) ... locked the car using the remote and then unlocked it. Car started straightaway. I had recharged the flat battery on return and it would appear that the security system had got itself confused. Thanks for the helpful replies.

Yeah that will do it - needed to reset your anti-theft enabled cntrl locking controller.
