    3b bottom end into aby

I'm going to have my bottom end rebuilt, with scatt rods ect. What i was wondering if i'd have any problems rebuilding a 3b bottom end and then fitting it into my aby using aby head ect. Basically not wanting to rebuild the aby bottom end (which is in the car) as i want to keep the car running and i have a spare 3b bottom end.

The only problem is the 3 holes on the front of the block for the cam belt tensioner. The 3B doesn't have them.

It's been discussed before, and I've since checked and the ABY block does have extra metal extending into the water jacket, so that the tapped holes don't run into it.
I'm fairly sure some have just drilled these extra holes into a 3B block, so that the ABY tensioner can be fitted.

If you want to balance the crank, as you should, then you will have to get an ABY front pulley/damper, flywheel and clutch, if that's what you are going to continue to use.

Obviously the oil pump will be different on the 3B too, but it depends on how far you want to go with the build before the swap.

And the turbo oil return goes into the sump on the 3b so there's no hole on the 3b block unlike the aby.

Good point, but that's an AC/non-AC thing. AC cars have the oil return to the sump.
Not a big deal to overcome either way.

I think i'l just pull the aby motor out and rebuild that. It'd make things a bit easier. Winter job i think!
          Cheers for the replies
