    Advice on ex. valves.

Looking at getting a full set and GSF have quoted me £6 each for the valves for an ABY...thought they would be more like £13 as they are the sodium version not plain.

Anyone used the GSF ones recently?

Could buy a spare and cut it in 2 to check...

You could cut them open, there is a procedure in the workshop manual for disposing of them, something like cut them in two, drop into a bucket of water, and quickly retreat to a safe distance

Weigh the valves. Sodium is a very light metal.
I made my stock sodium filled valves 49.0g, and non sodium filled 52.7g.

        Errrrrrrrr...

Why did you end up weighing them...

Cheers, i've got a decent balance so should be able to check any differences.

          .

Just got myself a set of GSF ex. valves...and...for the ABY application they weigh 51-52 gms or near abouts...

Question is, do i risk these for my 2.5T engine or get the 'real deal' at 3 times the cost...

          Carlos.

Sodium valves get rid of heat better, considering your going from a 2.2 to a 2.5 engine which will make more bang per buck I would say using non sodium valves is a bad idea.

You could use Inconel valves instead

^^^^^ yep got to agree whatever you do don't fit the GSF exh valves, you'll end up burning the seats in the head. If you want stock ones got several sets kicking about that have been swirl polished, or if you have a set they can be reconned providing the stems aren't worn.
The inconels are a nice upgrade too and flow the same as a swirl polished set but more expensive so it all comes down to your budget.

                .

I think both the 7A heads i have DO NOT have 'SF' valves fitted even though the Bentley Manual says they should!

PM me a price on a set of standard valves as all the bits will go to my local 'head man'.

Swirl polished valves are basically reprofiled stock valves. If you look at the stock valves they are very uneven. By Swirl polishing you create a smooth profile which creates less turbulence and ultimately provides more flow. All aftermarket performance valves come swirl polished.

Picture of some half completed before refacing and cleaning.
