Alternator adjustment via rod ends? How do i do it?

My alternator adjustment screw is not in good shape. I've seen vw 16v guys replace the alternator adjusters with rod ends and a coupling nut. I wouldn't mind doing this but i can't quite picture the details. Does one rod end need to be right hand threads and the other left hand threads? IS there anything wrong with this setup that I'm talking about? Also does the rod ends need to be sperical bearings versions? I'd say no correct? It it goes well I might consider making one for the power steering setup.

    Thanks
    Josh

yes, they need to be left and right threaded... and a heim end would be best.

i have the parts to make mine when i put the big motor in.... i got aluminum hollow tube for the "bar" that is the correct size to tap for the heims joints i got.

    will be the alternator adjuster.

another way you could do it is take a steering rod adjuster piece and make the two ends for it. that way you turn the adjuster to tighten the belt.

The bar, tube, coupling nuts etc. Does that have to be right hand thread on one side and left on the other?
