    water tempreture sensor???oil pressure???

hello all, I'm new to this forum and the S2 but a little question for y'all

went out for a little, (ok, a long) drive today being bank hols and all...and i'm sure this question may have been covered somewhere before but i cant seem to find it.

The temperature gauge on the dash (bottom left corner) doesn't seem to be working... and i think this is subsequently not letting the fan click on... figure it works in tandem. The car was getting real warm and i checked under the bonnet and the fan wasn't on.(end of the fun!!!!)

i'm sure this is the sensor but i could be wrong, whereabouts is it located and is it something that i can do and is it a dealer only part? if its not what could it be?

The next thing, the oil pressure gauge in the middle of the instrument panel in the centre console, what is that meant to be at. Is it meant to sit at a certain point or like mine seems to go up and down with acceleration and when not moving sit between 1.5-2

sorry if these are really easy/stupid questions!

Please direct if there are any links that are already in existence

    Cheers
    J

the one in the middle supposed to go up and down, depending on how hard you floor the accelerator.and sit between 1-2 when not moving

the temp guage never worked on my s2 but changing the temp sensor cured the problem. i got it done at a local audi specialists so im not sure if its a dealer part or not. its located in the coolant rail below the inlet manifold. there is a thread with a diagram on here but i cant find it.

Does the heater work properly and get hot?
Does the gauge go up when sitting in traffic or idling, or not move atall?

the needle, is permanently at the start point doesn't move at all and believe me the heater works...nothing worse than putting it on full blast on a hot day, so you can get back home, lol!

Pull the connector off the main rad sensor and bridge it with a piece off wire...if the fan kicks in its the sensor at fault or a relay issue.

Low down on the main radiator, close to the nearside wheel. It's a very simple test, that hopefully, will help you to eliminate it, from a combination of possible causes.

heya, managed to check the sensor... when i bridge the connector, the fan begins to run...its got three pin connector, so i assume i gotta pick up one of the same!

rang audi, they gonna charge me shy of £30 squid... and if its the relay £85

                  hope its the sensor...

cheers for the help, although, i'l be back to let you know if it goes wrong... or right

I hope it is OK once you have replaced the component. Thinking further about my recent problem with my fan makes me think that the fan would not operate at all if the relay was faulty, therefore, I hope replacing just the radiator sensor/thermo switch solves your problem.
If you need any relays there are plenty out there cluttering up peoples sheds - no need to pay crazy money when a second hand one will suffice.

                      hey all,

Audi deally finally got stock of the sensor i needed... it was with baited breath that i installed it, took the oppo to drain and flush the rads, filled it with G12 too... although, perhaps a little premature as i wasn't sure if i'd be taking the bloomin thing out again...

anyway, long story short... it works, well the gauge works...not sure on fan, will have to take it on a longish journey to see if it kicks in...so far so good though..

maybe its just me, but the car seems to drive a lot better too... i mean its a lot smoother... prob jst phycological, but it seems that way!

It would of been running the cold start map if it thought the temp wasnt going up. My last one did it too cause the stat was no good. The fan should kick in at 90 or so

it SHOULD drive better cause the ecu gets signals from it and adjust the mixture out from that

ok, i thought all was good, but took the car down to the New Forest for the weekend, (a wedding)

got halfway down and realised the gauge had stopped again...so of course the fan wasn't kicking in..

Pulled in at services at had a fiddle with the sensor under the car...fan started to work, but the gauge never seemed to go above 50 jst over... then another half hour it stopped again...

is this a prob with the sender? or loose wires? can't be relay can it if it works sometimes right?

any ideas? i've checked wires in the connecetor and they seem fine, and i've bridged the wires to test the fan...

don't wanna blow the car up, although you certainly build up a sweat sitting in the car with the blower on...lol!

How long does it take the car to reach 90 degrees which i would of thought is average right?

                              thanks
