you don't need to change the oil feed to the head, why would you ?

because hydraulic lifters account for using most of the oil volume sent to the head. mechanical (solid) lifters require much less....

i am doing the same thing to my solid head once the motor is here. but i do not have the answer yet as to how much i will do yet.

but how does restricting it help.

surely this only causes a pressure buildup lower down the engine as it cant feed the same volumes up?

i was to go solid lifter on my corrado but never finished it. didn't see much of modding the oil setup on the 16vt.

i know impreza is solid lifter and legacy is hyrdo for example. never saw any difference in the head

im ready for the first school of the week

As far as I'm concerned there is no need to to any thing like this !
The oil path to the tappet is the same the only difference being when it is gets to the tappet there is a groove in the OD with a hole in it to allow oil to pressurize the tappet, the amount of oil that gets past the tappet bore is no different than with a solid lifter as they are the same size and therefore have the same clearance from bore to OD of tappet .
Hydraulic tappets don't use much oil volume they use the pressure to keep them pumped up, when the cam comes down on them there will be a little reverse pumping affect when the tappet compresses to allow clearance but this is only a small amount .
What I'm saying is even if the hydraulic tappet heads had a bigger feed to allow for the reverse pumping of the tappets putting solid lifters in does not need you to restrict the flow to the head as they just don't pump oil back out at all. The pressure at the tappet and cam bearing is the same in both types of head so if you put solid lifters in a hydraulic head the same amount of oil would drain back to the sump as would in a normal solid lifter engine.

I Know is not the same car but when a prepair my citroen C2 for rallycross i change to mecanique lifters and is necessary to reduce oil to head doing that the cranck has more pressure and more long time of life

I´m going to reduce the hole in block to 5mm.
I´m giong to put some pictures
