I posted the link to your video on the UrS forum of quattroworld. I thought it sounded like a playing card in bicycle spokes, i.e. something rotary hitting something. One UrS4 owner said: "Sounds external, fan clutch, PS pump, or a zip tie hitting the fan." Another made the excellent suggestion of temporarily disconnecting the serpentine accessory drive belt (take the tension out of the belt tensioner) to see if it something like the fan or power steering pump etc. (If it is them, the noise will go away with the serpentine belt not driving them)

    Good luck.

I've got people on the UrS quattroworld forum listening to the video and at least one person thinks it is a dead lifter (another, broken valve spring):

Bit noisy for a lifter. Could be valve spring and have also heard of spark plugs going slack. I think more like a big end. Mine sounded like that but replace all the lifters and head first.

F5 DPOR plugs are great plugs. Used them for over 10 years and never had a problem. And some covered 30000miles of hard driving with 2bar boost.

              Thankyou for all your help

the cover has been removed and everything seems fine ? if i turn the engine over with no cover/coils on the tapping is not there but a very faint grinding noise from 2nd cylinder from the back on each stroke (cannot hear it on video though) sounds like metal on metal

I`m swaying towards bent valve from valve bounce but alittle too busy to strip it to check it at the moment

i will keep you informed and again thanks for your help

I'm sorry for a open this old tread, but now i have a same problem.

after rebuilding the engine and have this bad noice from it. just like on the video. I put a new valve guide, new INA tappets, every baring is new, everything in engine is new.

but after a few minutes or running it's start this f...in noice, few days I thy to find out what it is but I can't...

engine runs good, oil pressure is good, no liking problem, timing belt is good (check few times),cams are in good place.
it starts little bit strange ,but than run perfect.

I put inside a ARAL 5W-40 syntetic oil

                    engine is 3B.

                    please help, help,help,help,
