This is how I did my oilcooler upgrade. Not original position. Other cooler is for gearbox.

Is there some reason you want to keep original position?

The original position seems like a good spot in my case. Behind the bonnet grille isn't really an option. I have that spot reserved for something else.

Oil-water is out of the question too. I don't want to load the coolant system any more really. Not when a good air-air solution can be found. Plus I had a falling out with an oil-water cooler the other week! I suppose I should upgrade the main radiator really, like the Ron Davis radiator as pointed out, but I wanted to see how the original copes as it is first.

I'm thinking the gearbox won't need as much oil cooling as the engine, so I need to decide which will be the best spot for each of the coolers. I was originally thinking the original engine oil cooler would do as a gearbox cooler, and the 13 row behind the main radiator will be an improvement for the engine oil cooling
But if the original cooler can be upgraded, then with the relatively uninterrupted airflow it could be the best option for the engine cooling.

Of course I could always send the gearbox oil back to somewhere around the fuel filter, and have an oil cooler there, diesel cooler style.

      Choices, choices.

I suppose I'll have to get on a put the lot together, run the car and monitor temperatures, then switch things around/upgrade as necessary.
I just wondered if anyone had an easy solution before I go ahead. Obviously not, but that's also worth knowing.

Hello, have you remove the auxiliary water cooler? I want mount a bigger oil cooler in the original position because I don't find other place where mount it without a lot of modify. I had use my RS2 for some trackdays, the last on 2 June and the oil temp is about 130°C not more and not less, during the trackdays, the water temp is always at 90°C and so is good, but oil temp I think that is too high or not? Gearbox oil cooler is a good upgrade I think, but which gearbox have under your car? The original one?

        Thanks a lot!

Jamo -> you've clearly thought about (or done) oil to water cooling - care to share?
Shocked, exhausted, hosed, bushed, dumped, chipped, mounted, filtered, gauged, packed, intermittantly wiped and braked. I mean broken. Now, about the car...

Aux radiator is removed and no problem whit water temps. My Oil temp stays at 90°C but I haven't had any trackdays yet. I'm using DSY box from b5 S4.

I have a 19 row oilcoler in stock position.
Had to make custom brackets though

how in the world is that exhaust routed?

                  Like any other exhaust?
Straight down between subframe and driveshaft. With a separate pipe from the wastegate ending under the engine.

The way the picture is taken the separate pipe for the wastegate looks like it goes through the sway bar? Is the subframe modded at all? Maybe it's just the picture but it looks odd to me.

never mind I c it now. The picture is a bit of a illusion. It looks like the wastegate pipe becomes the exhaust if you look at it without really looking at it. Where the wastegate pipe dumps right around the sway bar.

Thanks meep. That's just the sort of thing I was looking for.

Cool down periods between laps of the Ring will hopefully be a thing of the past with a cooler like that.

I think I'll just go ahead and plumb in the 13 row cooler I have for the gearbox, then have a look at the engine oil cooler later.

Don't kid yourself... the oil might not but way over 130, just at 130 but the rest of the car will be verging on self combustion. Having set fire to some DS2500s at Combe and melted some tyres on various tracks I came to the conclusion that 1500kg and hard driving will always result in an upsetting amount of wear and tear on teh car

Don't forget that the oil cooler is on a thermostat so it will only keep the oil closer to that temperature (unless you've done some alterations )

I managed to fit a 25 row (x 40cm) oilcooler. Had to cut tow bar, move AC pump closer to engine and make custom brackets. I'm not sure if I have a picture, but I'll search
