broken exhaust stud: Will it leak?

The last upper stud on my head is broken below the head. Will there be an exhaust leak if i leave it alone for now? Honestly I don't want to take the head off to solve the problem. I'll probably pull the engine in a few months again. It's not a dailly driver either and if it sees any time on the road for more than an hour a so i'd be more than thrilled but i doubt it will happen.

    Opinions?

I really want to leave it alone for now. What's the worst that might happen?

    thanks

I chose not to choose life: I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who need reasons when you've got quattro?

If you are lucky, you might not have any real problems, maybe a slight leak. But you are risking potentially warping the EM slightly.

It *might* be possible to drill a pilot hole (using an air driven right angle drive drill) in the broken stud (through the hole in the manifold) and then inserting an "easy out" and removing the stud. However, if the pilot hole goes off line, then some of the threads in the head will be screwed. But it can be and has been done (not me, but a friend during his RS2 EM install).

I've managed to get a flush snapped EM stud out on my 3B with the head in situation by drilling a pilot hole with a Makita 14 volt drill and some quality drill bit's. I started with a very fine bit and worked up through a couple of sizes until the stud was hollow, took time and patience, then I used a stud extractor.

This happened to me after a head rebuild/skim etc. It crossed my mind to pull the whole engine and deal with it in this way rather than going through the expense of replacing head gaskets and stretch bolts etc., which are not cheap!
