rad fan cuting power / dead short

just got my self a aby coupe , the green one that was one ebay , the car drive's but when the fan kiks i have a loss of power for 1 sec , if you put the lights on they dip off on when the fan comes on , removed all the relays from my crashed 3b and put them in but its still the same , could it be the fan moter its self thats doing it ?

sounds like the battery isn't handling the current draw of the fan coming on.

What happens to the battery voltage when you turn on headlamps, wipers, interior blower and rear screen heater at the same time.

if you continue to have an issue after you have checked battery condition, alt condition etc. You could always power another relay direct from battery instead of through the relay plate.
How often is the fan kicking in? Do you have cooling issues? Just a thought.

Double check the relay plate to ....have seen water getting into them then corroded underneath causing all sorts of electrical issues

ditto that, and then plenty of signs of melting on the contacts at the fan end too - i have my fan/rad out the car at the moment and the top connector of the 3 was well burnt! These things draw massive current on startup so make sure plate and wiring is sound otherwise as i had a few years back, they can fry the loom and the fuse plate.
