    Cooling fan question

    Hi guys,

Need a quick answee on this if possible.

For all of you with Aircon, what happens to the cooling fan when you turn the Aircon on?

    Does the fan;
    a) Run non-stop until you turn the Aircon off
    or
    b) Run for 6-12 second intervals every 30 - 40 seconds (i.e. when the AC clutch is engaged)
    or
    c) Something else...

Any answers are greatly appreciated as I need to get this sorted ASAP.

    Thanks.

A for me...varying the speed depending on load etc. When i drove through Germany few years back in 35degree heat, it alternated between normal and high speed jet fan

Whats the problem you are seeing Rob?

        Thanks for the replys guys.

Well originally when I had the aircon turned on, the cooling fan would stay on permanently until I turned the aircon off. I've just had a fair amount of wiring replaced in order to rectify a few electrical gremlins as well as fault whereby when the cooling fan would kick in the aircon would come on with it!

Anyway, now I have the car back I've noticed that if I turn the aircon on the cooling fan is not constant but instead cycles in and out every 30-40 seconds on the high speed fan as opposed to what I was originally used to which was the cooling fan firing up on the first speed when I turned the aircon on until I would turn the aircon off.

I'm pretty keen to know whether or not the fan is suppose to be constant or intermittent.

Apologies if this isn't worded too well, it's been a long weekend!

when working as I say mine always came on on the low speed and stayed on until i turned the a/c off. Ambient temp and engine load determined which speed it worked on whilst moving...

            Sorted it now.

Power to the fan speed relay had failed so only the high speed setting was functioning for the fan. Now the relay has power, the low speed fan is permanently running. More importantly though, the low speed fan is cycling in and out as it should.

I think the wiring on the car is finally there now!

            Thanks David.
