Sorry? Where have you been? The 044 is a much more capable FP *AND* it can be and has been installed and succesfully run as an in-tank fuel pump by many people here as well as the C4 UrS forums. Normally requires use of the 60 mm older style V8 fuel pump basket.

Here is Doug_RS2 (of MRC now)'s DIY from 2004:

Here is 034's Drop in 040 and 044 in-tank options:

      OK

040 was a drop in option for me and has worked well for many years. Also easy to change should it ever fail during an event.
How many gallons or litres per hour does a car use at full throttle?
At 4 bar fuel pressure 040 delivers 300+lph? (loads!)
At 5 bar it delivers 200 litres per hour (lph) enough for 550 bhp!
At 6.5 bar it flows 102 litres per hour

Yes the 044 flows more but unless you plan on huge power, huge or twin injectors then 040 should deliver.

Dave, if its plug and play Im happy to go for an 044 pump, they are cheap here in NZ, though I want something that is going to be a straight swap.
I thought I had read that you need a V8 basket to fit a 044 pump to an RS2? V8's are rare as rocking horse poo in NZ so the chances of finding a basket is slim to none.

Also before I asked the question I did a search on the forum, but info becomes confusing.

If you look at the thread by Doug_RS2 (he of MRC now), there are somevery minor mods required for the 044 install. As for the baskets, I have just used the early V8 as an example that used the 60 mm baskets. There were lots of late 1980s Audis (Type 44s 100/200s for example) that used the 60 mm basket and strainers. I think that the early B3 coupe quattros also had 60 mm baskets and strainers.

I just suggested the 044 as an option because for the price you can get more capacity than just the RS2 fuel pump. However, if you truly want plug and play, then you are talking buying and installing the long body 43 mm diameter 895906089E fuel pump.

Well my fuel pump stopped today so now I have to get my A into G and get my pump replaced. A friend was kind enough to loan me his E46 M3 CSL till I get the RS2 back on the road.

Ive been looking on vagcat.com, Dave, as you say 895906089E is the RS2 pump, but what I find strange is that Audi k-Jet engines (ACE and NG codes) use the same pump/part number.
It also says that 8A0906091G is a fuel pump for these engine codes: ABK,AAH,ABC,ABY,ADW,ACZ

Nik: I don't know why you are surprized that the 895906089E was used in a bunch of Audi models other than the RS2. I posted up the list of what models it was used in in this thread the other day. Porsche and Audi must have decided to check the parts bins when deciding on a fuel pump for the RS2.

The 8A0906091G is a very commonly used Audi pump as well. It is the AAN fuel pump and the later V8 fuel pump, just for two examples. I am running a Bosch-made 8A0906091G (slightly better than the VDO/Siemens or Pierburg versions) in my RS2'd (plus) 93 UrS4 AAN. With relatively conservative MRC Stage 3 software the AAN is now making about 360 crank hp (289 whp) with a 4 Bar fuel pressure regulator, so a 8A0906091G would technically provide enough fuel for a stock RS2 at 315 hp with a 3.8 Bar fuel pressure regulator. I don't think the fittings are the same as the RS2 pump but the 8A0906091G diameter is 43 mm like the RS2 pump.

Well my Han Pries fuel pump failed yesterday after only 10 months and around 12,000kms.

I was looking at other options and was offered this after supplying the RS2 fuel pump part number:

"That part # cross reference’s to Bosch part # 040 which similar to the 044 but less pressure and has the flat gauze filter base on it, which is what you need. In stock and can be delivered overnight, price is $499 (NZD) incl gst and delivery.

                      040 Specs:
                      Internal Fuel pump
                      Flow: 102 lph @ 6.5 BAR
                      SUPORTS UP TO 400 BHP
                      Inlet Connection: Open Base Filter
                      Outlet Connection: M10 X 1.0
                      Length: 169 mm
                      Diameter: 60 mm

                        Hi
I am looking to replace the fuel pump as well (close to 20 years and 140 tkm), and searching to find alternatives to the expensive original pump.
I prefer a pump that more or less just jump in requiring as little modification as possible to excisting fittings in tank.
The above suggested 8A0906091G seems to correspond to Bosch 0580314068, is that correct? Also I am a little in doubt if the dia of the Bosch 0580314068 is actually Ø43?

Anybody knows where to find specifications and dimensions for various Bosch fuel pumps?

Have found alternatives to the 8A0906091G as cheap as 29 EUR (no-name), but prefer to pay 4 times more to get the Bosch name on the pump, and hopefully keep !

I have in my hand the Bosch box from the Ø43 Bosch fuel pump I put in my RS2'd UrS4 in around 2005 (wow, that long ago, time flies). The side label on the box says 8A0906091G (the Audi PN for the UrS fuel pump). On the end flap of the box, the label says 0 580 314 068.

Be aware that the Bosch 0 580 314 068 has a connector system that requires that you cut off the OE Audi ring terminals and crimp on Bosch spade terminals that clip into a plastic connector which then attaches to the pump. Makes going back to a ring-terminal pump, e.g. VDO Siemens, less than plug and play.

Also the 8A0906091G pumps are not as long/tall as the OE RS2 pump. I don't know how well they fit in a RS2 basket.

Here are some hints on installing a 8A0906091G in a C4 chassis (might or might not help you):

                              Thanks for swift reply.

As long as the original basket is suitable for the new Bosch 0580314068 pump, then the wiring will be a minor issue.

It might be wise to change the wires inside the tank once its opened anyway.
Also consider to install a separate relay to feed the pump directly from the battery to minimize power loss in those old wires.

I will include a Bosch 0580314068 in the next shipment of spare parts, then time will show when Im ready to do the installation, as it is not urgent. YET.

Here is a link to a DIY that I posted originally in 2004 regarding relaying the FP to the battery in a C4. Yours will be similar except for the battery location:
