    Lightened Flywheel pictures

Can we maybe make a collection of lightened 7A, 3B ect flywheels so we can see the possible ways of doing it? The one is this one (but i have seen other ways i.e. with holes).

    cheers

    Thanks for the replies :-p

    here are some more pictures.

I also read in a german forum that the stock FW are not zero balanced on purpous and because of this one can lighten the stock 3B or 7A FW on a lathe without having to have it balanced when the material is removed from the back side like in some of the pisctures i am going to post.

    What do you think?

I like the one that's skimmed on the backside best.

How thick is the material left there? Did you balanced it then?

They said that it should not be less thick than 7-8mm.

You should ask Aelred about this thickness because he did the machine work on it, but from what I have seen and got as feedback from Aelred my lightened 7A flywheel was balanced to 0

I got mine to just over 6KG

Then the fly wheel was refaced and balanced

So how much does a standard 3B weigh and any detrimental effects taking it to 7Kg other than more vibration at idle?

Basset down undertake the balancing, but not the machine work. South Cerney are good, but on the expensive side
