    Diesel 2.5L crankshaft...

    hello.
im planning to rebuild my ABY engine to
    2.5L 92mm stroke.
I´ve spoken whit some audituners in sweden
but they dont know about any engine with
    that crankshaft that works .
So im just wondering if any of you got this crank or similar
and if it´s bolt-on.. i know that you must have shorter
connectingrods but are there other mods that must be done,
    pistons?..

i hope to get many answers =)

IMHO i wouldn't bother. Just buy some carrillo or similar con rods. And turn the boost up!! Uprated rods will take 2 bar+

The gain in capacity will not make much difference. Maybe a bit more torque but then you will get loads of that once the boost is turned up!!

You mean 95.5mm stroke. You can't use this crank in your 2.2L block, we tried this in the early days, using my car as a prototype, and the block was too short. We now use a complete AEL block complete with crank and rods, giving 2,461cc combined with the standard (81mm) pistons. A lot of machining is required to get the whole set up to work, but well worth it. We sell short engines ready built.

What aut keeping the perfect cubic size of engine cilinder. 86 x 86 like in Evo and Celica ?

ABY has 81 x 86,4 ... going to AEL will give you moce ccm but alsow a stroke 81 x 95,5 .... result more stress on cranck shaft ... and still nowbody can tell me what is the crankshaf braking point.

we have seen ABY with 600KM+ / 700Nm+ on bard ... and it worked ... if there will be a ADL engine geting more power i will thing about it ...

I'm geting new roods and pistons in a month or two. we will see what can be done with 2.2 engine.

              thanks!

              thanks for all answers.
you dont sound too convinced about the 92mm crank,
ok the cubic bore/stroke is even worse when u stroke the engine.

hmm how should i do?.. everyone else has got the standard crankshaft and verdi rods, nothing wrong with that but it´s a "boring" concept if there already is 10cars with that mods
              in my "area"

                Mihnea: KM -> PS

stupidswede: what turbos your frends have ? probably going with turbo other that KKK would give You a higher number of PS.

Does some body know what can ABY crankshaft hande ? no body so far responded

I guess the reason no one has responded to how much can the standard crank can handle is due to the fact that there is no set limit, how long is a piece of string? Even VAG themselves are a bit vague on subjects like that. Some cranks can handle 200 Nm more than others, which could go bang on less, could be luck. My standard crank was fine, output was 413PS and 403.7 lbs/ft. I only changed it to the AEL set up 'cause I wanted more torque at less revs, rather than fear of the original one going BANG!

I don't think there's a real set limit on a crank, and AFAIK the I-5 cranks are rock solid. the only problem I could see with them could be with inappropriate chipping, too much or not enough advance for the boost level causing internal stresses, as well as restrictive exhausts and so on, but usually valves suffer first from such issues. My project is to make 450 reliable HP and 550-600 Nm in my coupe, with a bone stock crank and reinforced rods only, we're going to see if the crank is the weakest link or not but I have a feeling it's not...

The weakest link is more likely to be the head gasket, I ran a 10V turbo some years ago and I had the block wire ringed, as I went through 3 head gaskets in 18 months, running 322PS and 305 lbs/ft @ 1.6 bar boost.

Dont talk to me about h/gaskets, mine went about a week before my last track day. Don't want to have to keep doing that job

What a job! Used the RS2 steel gasket and all is well. For now

Dunno about the best. I just bought full Reinz gasket set that included the multi layer steel head gasket. I've heard that that's also what they sell at official spare dealers nowadays to every 20v turbo... And it's reusable!

btw 240€ including a bit of discount
