Steering Rack.What have I done wrong?

Hello everyone with a superior Coupe to mine!

Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong here?

The problem is that .....yep....obviously....the studs on the bracket have ripped strrrraight through one of the matrix pipes.



Does the bracket go on the other way round so theres nothing to rip through the hoses?

There was a bit of a gap between when I dismantled and started to remantle (?!) this job,hence my asking.

was it a new rack or second hand. did the braket come with the rack or was it of the old rack

On the I5 the metal pipe that the matrix hose attaches to has a metal tab, this supports the pipe and hose up from the bell housing. It could be yours has/had something similar.

Just to say thanks for all your help guys.

Gelbus (my Coupe) is not back together yet,as Im waiting on the hose.

It confirms what Im learning,the rack should sit lower.
At the moment,it is sitting level with the pipes,thus chaffing them,ooer!

Something is upside down or back to front.
It was a very difficult day on Saturday.The circumstances in which I was working started off ideal,but got very busy and I lost my concentration.Hence,being completely confused !

Im sure we'll work it out.

What could be back to front,to make it sit too high ???

Got so paranoid about what I'd done wrong on the rack re-assembly,I completely overlooked the little fact that Mong-groom hadnt slid the hose back on all the way.


Anyway,thanks for your support chaps.

I wonder how many of you knew and had a right good laugh at my spaziness.
