Seems like I've been off the road for ages :-( but at last, another S2 rejoins the road :-). She's not 100% right, still need to do some fettling, but she's back and going strong :-)
When I put her back together she had a real bad rattle from the front end. I stripped her all the way back again :-( even took the new water pump back out, just to check if it was faulty!! The rattle has turned out to be the power steering pump rattling on its shaft. Amazing how bad it does rattle if its not tight enough, sounded like the lump was ready to drop something metal!
Assembled her today for the last time, filled her with water, run her up, undid the bleed screw on the water hose and let the air out, went to do the screw back up again and it just turned and turned :-(( poxy plastic screw, the thread on the screw was totally stripped all bar the lat two turns :-(, Great... off the road again for a poxy screw....
No problem me thinks, just find a suitable metal screw and a sealing washer... no chance! it's a real weird fine pitch, nothing I had would fit it :-( Oh well... I'll have to get a new one, so lets take the hose off. When I got the hose off, you can see there is a regular metal nut inside the hose, so with a little careful prising, I managed to get the captive nut out of the water hose :-) replaced it with a 'standard' pitch nut and carefully got the nut seated inside the water hose. Then used a stainless steel allen bolt and sealing washer and away she goes!! sorted :-))) a 10p nut!! better than forking out £40 for a new hose!!
Slap the bumper and under tray on, put all the lights back in and test drive time. 20 minutes later I returned home with a thumbs up verdict :-)) I seem to of developed a squeek somewhere, but what the hell... at least I can drive her again!! happy days..
Anyhow, moral of the story... be careful what you touch... as you repair one problem, another bites you on the ****...
