    S6 SMIC question

Would anyone know what type of end tanks the stock intercooler on my 1995 S6 has? I'm hoping the answer is 'alloy', but am aware some of the earlier intercoolers had plastic end caps.

    Cheers,
    Tom

All S4 had all alloy contruction. A few very early S6 got them also, but then Audi switched to plastic tanks. I've got plastic tanks on my '95 avant. I've also got a alloy IC on the shelf waiting.

Hmm. Well mine was registered in August '95, so I guess I'm going to have to get underneath and have a look..

If they are plastic, are the alloy ones easy to find or am I looking at getting a custom one made up?

        Cheers,
        Tom

As far as a SMIC goes, the plastic end tanks aren't that bad. What is worse is the plastic cross-over tube from the turbo discharge hose to the Michelin Man hose. It is prone to splitting more than the plastic end tanks on the UrS6 SMIC.

Advice: Find a wrecked C4 UrS4 and buy the S4's metal cross over tube and the all metal SMIC. Either that or go for a 2.5" thick FMIC as shown here:
